Nothing humbles a man quite like an old-fashioned spanking. Such was the fate of Tito Ortiz at the Mandalay Bay Events Center on Sept. 26, 2003.
Randy Couture met him at every turn, struck for takedowns in all five rounds and grinded on Ortiz with persistent ground-and-pound at UFC 44. He mounted “The Huntington Beach Bad Boy” in the fourth round and completed his humiliating victory with an unforgettable gesture in the fifth. While Ortiz attacked with a desperation kneebar, Couture calmly patted him on the rear end -- a perfect punctuation mark to a fight that was decidedly one sided.
“The Natural” carried the scorecards by 50-45, 50-44 and 50-44 margins but will be forever remembered for his decision to administer some corporal punishment.
