Preview: UFC Fight Night ‘Cerrone vs. Oliveira’

Riggs vs. Camozzi

Middleweights

Joe Riggs (41-16) vs Chris Camozzi (22-10)

THE MATCHUP: Camozzi has a nice southpaw jab which he uses to maintain the distance and set up his straight left. Though he is no defensive master, Camozzi does slip straight rights fairly well and controls the distance to thwart other attacks. He has fought to mixed success in the UFC and snapped a five-fight losing streak inside the Octagon with his unanimous decision over Tom Watson in August.

Like Camozzi, Riggs is a fighter who gets by on his consistency, a trait which is starting to fail him as he enters his 15th year of professional fighting. Prior to 2006, Riggs had only been knocked out once -- by heavyweight Wesley Correia. Since then, he has been stopped by strikes four times. His most recent win may as well have been a finish, too, as Riggs won via disqualification after having his eye damaged by a series of legal strikes from Ron Stallings. “Diesel” has a lot of miles on the odometer, and he has never posted back-to-back UFC victories.

THE ODDS: Camozzi (-255), Riggs (+210)

THE PICK: Riggs still packs a punch and fights smart, but Camozzi has never been knocked out. Camozzi also knows how to adapt to an opponent, and age is on his side. He wins this one via TKO in the second round.
