Preview: UFC Fight Night 208 ‘Blaydes vs. Aspinall’
McCann vs. Goldy
Women's Flyweights
Molly McCann (12-4 | 5-3 UFC) vs. Hannah Goldy (6-2 | 1-2 UFC)Odds: McCann (-390), Goldy (+320)
McCann's a reliably fun fighter, but it was still an absolute shock when she provided the in-fight highlight of the UFC's March trip to London, ending Luana Carolina's night with a brutal spinning elbow. McCann's a fun scrapper who's almost always fighting from an athletic deficit, something made quite clear in her 2018 UFC debut; in McCann's hometown of Liverpool, Gillian Robertson quickly leveraged her wrestling and grappling into a submission victory. Since then, there's been a clear dividing line for "Meatball" where she can find a path to victory against some of the less functional entrants in the flyweight division, but struggles once that athletic gap gets too large. Now riding a ton of momentum - that Carolina finish gives McCann a two-fight win streak - the Scouser looks to recapture part of that magic here against Goldy. Goldy is a muscular tank of a fighter, but doesn't do much to leverage those physical gifts; while she has the build of a straightforward bruiser, "24K" typically attempts to make her hay as a patient striker from range, which is usually an odd choice. Goldy does have the athleticism to make that approach frustrating at times, but her lone UFC win didn't really come according to plan, as she scored an armbar after getting taken down by Emily Whitmire last September. McCann's always going to be a risky pick, particularly with Goldy's clear strength advantage here, but this does look like a fight where McCann will be given the free reign to have the type of fight that she wants - and while Goldy's dangerous, she's not particularly reliable in pressing those advantages. The pick is McCann via decision.
