Exactly 371 days after stomping the highly regarded Alexandre Franca Nogueira in his debut for the promotion, rising star Aldo looked to cement his status as the next big thing in World Extreme Cagefighting and MMA in general with a victory over a flashy, battle-hardened contender in Swanson. Anticipation ran high for what promised to be a fantastic scrap.

The audience got its money’s worth, or at least as much as you can in a fight that lasts for all of eight seconds. Aldo leaped into the air and hit Swanson with not one but two flying knees (above video timestamp: 0:01) before he descended back to Earth, and one of those flush strikes left him with a lifelong reminder of Aldo’s impending greatness.
