8. Yoshiyuki Nakanishi vs. Melvin Manhoef

Whether he is fighting in a kickboxing ring or in a cage, Manhoef throws everything with enough force to put down a full-grown bull elephant. Rightly famed for the power in his hands and the ridiculous bite of his low kicks, the dynamite Dutchman came out looking to put a hurting on unknown Japanese fighter Nakanishi.

Alas, things went terribly wrong a little over a minute into the opening frame. It is impossible to tell exactly when or how it happened, but an unlucky collision opened an enormous divot in Manhoef’s shin, along with a smaller wound on Nakanishi’s leg. The shinbone was nearly visible through Manhoef’s wound, and the fight was stopped shortly thereafter despite the Dutchman’s willingness to continue.

This was not the worst shin cut in history -- the gash on Alex Reid’s shin during his bout with Murilo Rua in Cage Rage was likely worse -- but there is just something about “Elephant Gun Knuckles” Manhoef that demands recognition.
