Preview: PFL 8 2024 | Light Heavyweight, Lightweight Playoffs

Rabadanov vs. Dufort

Lightweight Semifinal

Gadzhi Rabadanov (22-4-1, 2-0 PFL) vs. Michael Dufort (13-5, 1-1 PFL)

Expect high-level grappling between the No. 2- and No. 3-seeded lightweights in this intriguing semifinal. Rabadanov hasn’t finished an opponent since 2021, but the Dagestan native has built his eight-fight winning streak off a steady all-around game. Rabadanov’s striking isn’t masterful, but he uses it effectively to set up his takedowns and clinch work. From then on, fighting him is a test of will and endurance. Rabadanov pushes the pace on the ground and focuses on making you work for every molecule of air. He’s quick to bail on submission if he feels like he’s losing control, and while that type of fighting isn’t a favorite among fans, Rabadanov makes hell for his opponents by taking them out of the fight. Rabadanov may not be a finisher, but his Canadian counterpart certainly is. Dufort doesn’t have hands of stone but boasts a slick submission game. Before his loss to Adam Piccolotti, Dufort was on a three-fight submission streak but never found the opportunity against Piccolotti. Rabadanov needs to keep that the same way. While Dufort is the more dangerous grappler, Rabadanov’s wrestling could nullify a lot of his potential submission attempts. On the feet, it’s about even, but Rabadanov does carry a slight advantage. It’s unlikely that this fight will end early based on how calculated Rabadanov has fought lately. Dufort will likely fall short on the scorecards if he doesn't find a submission.
