As Ultimate Fighting Championship lightweight Scott Holtzman enters his 10th fight in the Octagon, he is well aware of the grappling deficiencies he has shown during his run in the organization. It’s why he campaigned for a fight with grappling ace and UFC stalwart Jim Miller. It is a challenge he is excited to meet at UFC Fight Night 167 in Rio Rancho, New Mexico.
“This fight is as much about me, as it is anything else,” Holtzman told Sherdog. “I’m out here to prove things to myself, too. I want validation that everything I’ve worked for is not in vain. I really think in this camp I’ve dialed in on some details on wrestling and grappling that have gotten me beat in the past. Some of those losses have come down to one or two takedowns, or a few grappling positions, and that’s what has lost it for me. I really believe I’m a lot tighter in that area [and] I’m excited to show that.”
Along with looking ahead to his bout inside the Santa Ana Star Center, Holtzman spoke about his frustration with not getting booked since his victory last August. He also talked about his past playing professional hockey, growing up a “hillbilly” in Knoxville and how being a father has changed his outlook on life.
