Brendan Loughnane on ‘Great Guy’ Bubba Jenkins: Unfortunately, It Was Him or Me
Even after Brendan Loughnane and Bubba Jenkins collided for the Professional Fighters League 155-pound championship, theirs is a rivalry based in respect.
There is no place for hate in the heart of Loughnane (25-4, 8-1 PFL) for his former rival, even after exchanging blows for three and a half rounds at the recent PFL Championships. Ultimately, Loughnane emerged as a winner after stopping Jenkins with punches followed by a knee at the 2:38 mark of Round 4, taking the championship home to England and pocketing a $1 million award. Loughnane fought the perfect season as he defeated Ryoji Kudo, Ago Huskic, and Chris Wade in a row before capturing the final victory. Now, he can only say how he and Jenkins are on excellent terms following their battle.
“We're on great terms. He's a great guy. I've got a lot of love and respect for him, his culture, his family. Unfortunately, it was him or me. He actually called me the next day and we had a talk about it. We just talked about… He just said, ‘Congratulations, you deserve it. How you feeling? How's the family?’ Just general chit chat really.”
