Beatdown: Rockhold, Easton, Nelson

TJ De Santis and Jeff Sherwood returned to the Sherdog Radio Network Friday for another edition of “Beatdown.” Joining the guys on this broadcast were UFC fighters Luke Rockhold, Mike Easton, and mixed martial arts trainer Greg Nelson.

Luke Rockhold’s UFC debut did not go according to plan when he was knocked out by a spinning wheel kick from former UFC light-heavyweight champion Vitor Belfort. The former Strikeforce middleweight champion gets another chance to make a statement in the UFC’s octagon at UFC Fight Night 35 when he faces Costas Phillippou. The American Kickboxing Academy product joins TJ and Jeff to discuss chat about the middleweight tilt, his opinion of Phillippou has a fighter, and how he plans to get the victory later this month. Rockhold also discusses an injury that kept him out of UFC 166 and the wrap that AKA has gotten about being an injury prone gym.

Mike Easton’s back is against the wall in his UFC career. Despite only having three losses on his career ledger, two of them have come most recently back-to-back. The Washington D.C. bantamweight looks to right the ship against Team Alpha Male product TJ Dillashaw. Easton joined the program Friday to discuss the Fight Night 35 matchup, his last loss to Brad Pickett, and what he plans to do against Dillashaw in Duluth, Georgia. Easton also discusses his decision to stay with Team Lloyd Irivn despite the gym and coach coming under fire in 2013.

Last Saturday night the MMA world was buzzing with rumors that Brock Lesnar may be returning to the UFC. No announcement was made on the former heavyweight champion’s career in mixed martial arts. However, the buzz proved that Lesnar’s polarity is still high among casual and hardcore fans. Former Lesnar trainer Greg Nelson joined “Beatdown” to chat about a possible Lesnar return, if Brock reached his full potential in MMA, and sheds light on if he has heard anything pertaining to a return by the long time WWE superstar.

De Santis and Sherwood open up the 2014 listener prediction contest, take listener calls, emails and tweets, and discuss tomorrow’s UFC event in Singapore.
