In case anyone forgot, Khamzat Chimaev offered an emphatic reminder of his abilities at UFC 308.
Elsewhere, Ilia Topuria cemented his spot atop the featherweight division with a third-round knockout of Max Holloway in the UFC 308 headliner. Topuria has flashed frightening knockout power in back-to-back finishes of Holloway and Alexander Volkanovski and appears to have all the makings of the sport’s next big star. The future is bright indeed for “El Matador,” who only strengthens his grip on the top spot at 145 pounds.
In other UFC 308 action, Magomed Ankalaev kept on winning, taking a unanimous verdict against Aleksandar Rakic in a pivotal light heavyweight affair. While it wasn’t a spectacular performance from the Dagestani, his 13-bout unbeaten streak in the UFC is difficult to ignore. He climbs to No. 2 at 205 pounds, and perhaps a future date with reigning champion Alex Pereira awaits.
Finally, Lerone Murphy weathered a rough first round to keep his unbeaten record intact with a hard-fought unanimous verdict over Dan Ige. The Brit climbs to No. 12 in the featherweight rankings, but he’ll have to get off to faster starts if he hopes to surpass the division’s elite in future matchups.
