What a difference four years makes.

When Serghei Spivac and Marcin Tybura first squared off at UFC Fight Night 169, the world had not yet officially entered the COVID-19 pandemic. If that feels like an eternity ago, well, it is — especially when it comes to the growth of an MMA heavyweight. While Spivac dropped a unanimous decision to his veteran foe back then, he proved to be a far different fighter in their rematch. “The Polar Bear” exacted revenge on Tybura in the UFC on ESPN 61 headliner, submitting the Pole with an armbar in the opening stanza of their heavyweight clash at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas on Saturday night. As a result, Spivac climbs to No. 8 in Sherdog’s latest divisional rankings, while Tybura falls from seventh to ninth.

Elsewhere, ranked women’s bantamweights Karol Rosa and Yana Santos were impressive in victory at UFC on ESPN 61. Rosa’s triumph carries more weight because it came against the 12th-ranked Pannie Kianzad, while Santos ended a three-bout skid against an overweight and overmatched Chelsea Chandler. As a result, Rosa takes over the No. 8 spot in the 135-pound poll, while Santos drops to No. 9.
