Sherdog’s Official Mixed Martial Arts Rankings

Not So Friendly Reminder

Alex Perez reminded the flyweight division that he’s still plenty dangerous.

After dropping successive fights at the hands of Deiveson Figueiredo, Alexandre Pantoja and Muhammad Mokaev, Perez rebounded in a big way on Saturday night when he knocked out Matheus Nicolau in the makeshift UFC on ESPN 55 headliner at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. By ending that three-bout skid, the Dana White’s Contender Series alum climbs to No. 11 in the latest flyweight rankings.

For the previously eighth-ranked Nicolau, the setback is his second straight after the Brazilian compiled a six-bout professional winning streak from May 2019 to December 2022. As a result, the 31-year-old Nova Uniao export falls out of the Top 10 and one spot behind Perez at No. 12.

Elsewhere, Karine Silva won her fourth fight in a row in UFC competition — and ninth straight overall — by taking a hard-fought decision win against Ariane Lipski on Saturday. That work allows the Brazilian to claim the No. 15 spot in the women’s flyweight rankings.
