It appears that Tatiana Suarez is on the verge of fulfilling her considerable potential.

If injuries hadn’t derailed her progress more than four years ago, it’s possible that Suarez might already be an owner of championship hardware. On Saturday, Suarez showed that she’s still a formidable talent, as she submitted former 115-pound champion Jessica Andrade in the second round of their clash at UFC on ESPN 50 in Nashville. Suarez is the owner of a seven-bout UFC winning streak, and her latest victory is the most significant, as it allows her to climb to No. 5 in Sherdog’s latest strawweight rankings. Suarez could be on the verge of a title opportunity in the division, and she will be an interested observer when Weili Zhang and Amanda Lemos clash at UFC 292 in Boston.

Elsewhere, Cory Sandhagen dominated Rob Font for five rounds in the UFC on ESPN 50 headliner, but his grappling-oriented effort didn’t earn him many new fans. More importantly, the bout was contested at a 140-pound catchweight, so it doesn’t affect Sherdog’s bantamweight rankings. With Sandhagen showcasing a new element to his game, he remains a talent to watch at bantamweight in the months to come.
