Amanda Nunes and Charles Oliveira laid down the law in the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s first trip to Canada in four years.

Nunes retained her bantamweight crown with five dominant rounds against Irene Aldana in the UFC 289 main event, then exited the sport as the female GOAT in the immediate aftermath by announcing her retirement. “Lioness” remains the unquestioned No. 1 in two divisions until her rankings eligibility expires.

Oliveira, meanwhile, denied reigning champion Islam Makhachev the possibility of a fresh challenge at 155 pounds by finishing Beneil Dariush inside of a round in the UFC 289 co-main event. “Do Bronx” is still the clear-cut No. 2 at lightweight — and he’ll likely get a chance to prove himself worthy of the top spot once again in the not-too-distant future.

While predictable dominance was the order of the day in the UFC, Jesus Pinedo authored an “Upset of the Year” candidate at PFL 4, ending defending featherweight champion Brendan Loughnane’s repeat bid with a first-round knockout victory at Overtime Elite Arena in Atlanta on Thursday night. That clears the way for fellow PFL featherweight stalwart Movlid Khaybulaev, who has yet to taste defeat in 23 professional appearances, to claim Loughnane’s No. 15 ranking at 145 pounds.

Finally, an upset on the UFC 289 preliminary draw shuffled the bottom of the deck at flyweight, as Steve Erceg’s win against the previously 12th-ranked David Dvorak — the Czech’s third straight defeat — sets the stage for Tagir Ulanbekov to enter the flyweight poll at No. 15.
