Cory Sandhagen is a sniper.
The former interim title challenger used his precise and violent striking arsenal to slow Yadong Song’s ascent in the bantamweight division with a fourth-round doctor stoppage victory in the UFC Fight Night 210 headliner at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas on Saturday night. Sandhagen opened a cut over his opponent’s left eye with an elbow early in the bout, and the wound worsened over time, eventually forcing the cageside physician to call off the contest after 20 minutes.
The fourth-ranked Sandhagen maintains his footing in a competitive bantamweight division, while the No. 10 Song sees his progress slowed — at least temporarily. At only 24 years old, Song’s best years are likely still ahead of him.
