Rich
Franklin was looking to get his light heavyweight run back on
track. Wanderlei
Silva was trying to remain relevant for a run at middleweight.
It seems both may have got what they wanted from their 195-pound
catchweight bout at UFC 99 in Cologne, Germany.
Franklin emerged victorious, getting a unanimous nod from the judges, but "The Axe Murderer" fought gamely against the former UFC middleweight champ and convinced many without official scorecards that he was the winner.
UFC 99 also featured a pair of emergent welterweight contenders. Dan Hardy pushed his Octagon mark to 3-0 with his split decision over Marcus Davis, but Mike Swick earned "Knockout of the Night" honors for a second-round smashing of Ben Saunders that inched him closer to a crack at the UFC welterweight title.
