Oct 14, 2014

(PRESS RELEASE) -- The International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF) is excited to welcome its latest member, the Bulgarian Federation of Mixed Martial Arts (BFMMA). The BFMMA was recently elected as the national federation to represent Bulgaria in the IMMAF and meets the criteria of being a non-profit, democratic organization.

Established in November 2013 by 10 MMA clubs, the BFMMA aims at developing, promoting and encouraging high achievement within Mixed Martial Arts in the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria. The BFMMA has a managing board consisting of 15 respected national sport specialists, led by president Mr. Stanislav Nedkov, the biggest name to compete in MMA out of Bulgaria. The federation is actively working to assist other clubs within the region to establish themselves as non-profit organizations for sports development, so that they can become eligible for BFMMA membership.

The BFMMA has already applied for formal recognition by the Ministry of Sport in Bulgaria and is in the process of becoming recognized.

President, Mr. Nedkov, said:

"We're extremely happy to be accepted as an IMMAF member and we're sure that through our mutual efforts and through that of all IMMAF members, we will lead the sport of MMA to becoming the number one combat sport in Bulgaria, Europe and the world."

IMMAF's Secretary General, Erika Mattsson, said:

"We are very pleased to welcome Bulgaria into the IMMAF fold. The movement towards voluntary regulation is making waves world over, and in each of these countries we see the MMA communities coming together at grass roots level; dedicating their own time, passion and hard work to making the sport they love safer and to protect its participants. The BMMAF have made impressive achievements already and the IMMAF looks forward to lending its support and working in partnership with the Bulgarian federation as they move towards official government recognition."
