Fioravanti has secret plan for ‘Secret Weapon’

(PRESS RELEASE) -- Luigi Fioravanti should be a professional poker player.

He knows he’s got good cards in front of him, but being a shark, he’s not about to tip his hand. No tells, no reveals. Fioravanti is keeping everything close to his chest, but he does have an ace in the hole.

“I have a secret for The Secret Weapon,” touted Fioravanti.

Fioravanti (17-6) will get an opportunity to showcase his secret when he squares-off against Pete “The Secret Weapon” Spratt (20-17) at MFC 25: Vindication on Friday, May 7. The fight will be part of the live televised main card on HDNet Fights emanating from the Northlands Expo Centre in Edmonton , Alberta.

While Fioravanti wouldn’t give away any tidbits on his secret for Spratt, “The Italian Tank” is preparing full-out for his impending battle - one which he wants to control right from the opening bell.

“I will take the fight where I want whether it be on the feet or on the ground,” said Fioravanti, who trains in Coconut Creek , Florida . “I know Pete is a good striker but I am confident in my striking skills as well. He will bring it but so will I. I think that is what makes this an exciting fight.”

And while Spratt may be the more prominent striker - see his knockout of Nathan Gunn at MFC 22 last October for a prime example - Fioravanti figures he can end the fight in the same style.

“I am always looking to finish,” said Fioravanti. “I'm excited to go and put on a dominating performance. I always put on exciting fights whether it’s on the feet or on the ground.”

Fioravanti made his organizational debut at MFC 22 back in October 2009 but the night didn’t end the way he had expected. Though he was expected to dominate the striking game, Fioravanti was surprisingly dropped by well-regarded submission fighter John Alessio. A looping punch caught Fioravanti on the chin and sent him crashing to the canvas like a toppled tree in the forest. It was a devastating loss for Fioravanti but it has since served as a motivational tool.

“That Alessio fight affected me greatly because I was winning up until that lucky punch,” explained Fioravanti. “I was pissed off, so I got my ass back in the gym and started working on my mistakes … fixing everything. Since then I have won two fights and I am ready to keep winning.”

Fioravanti holds career victories over notables including Luke Cummo, Dave Menne, Thiago Goncalves, and Solomon Hutcherson who will be in his own battle on the MFC 25 card against David Heath. Fioravanti knows, though, that past accolades mean little when it comes to a quest for the MFC welterweight belt.

“I think there are good fighters in the division, but I think I am at the top,” he said. “Whenever the MFC says they want to give me a shot at the title, I want it but I have to prove that first by racking up some wins in the MFC.”
