BUTTERBEAN HEADLINES WEEKEND OF MMA
Mar 4, 2010
(PRESS RELEASE) -- This Friday and Saturday, March 5 and 6, at the
Emerald Ballroom in Mt Clemens, Michigan, Greg Ahrens’ TMS Fight
Night will present Xtreme Cagefighting Championship’s “Beat Down at
the Ballroom 8 and 9” -- two spectacular nights of elite mixed
martial arts.
This spectacular event is presented in association with Matt Flynn of the XCC, UCF Cage Combat and Carlos Llinas of CLIP.
The highlight of the weekend will be Saturday’s professional main
event when none other than world-famous Eric “Butterbean" Esch will
go for the XCC Super Heavyweight Championship against the XCC’s
current champ, Jeff "The Predator" Kugel of Roseville.
“Most people know Butterbean for his boxing and for being the 400-lb ‘King of the Four Rounders’. But he’s also an accomplished mixed martial artist,” explained Flynn. “He’s fought in K-1 and in Pride and done extremely well. And his opponent, Jeff Kugel stands 6” 7” tall and was an All-State wrestler and Golden Glove boxer. He’s a bad boy who is suspended for life from the Ontario Hockey League. This is going to be a sensational battle for the fans coming out Saturday night. You know what you get with Butterbean – Jeff Kugel is the same kind of guy. This is going to be a stand-up war between two super heavyweight destroyers and someone is going down.”
14 fights are scheduled. In the main event Steve Gatto of Shelby Township will face Marcelo Solinas of Sarnia, Ontario, for the XCC Middleweight Championship vacated by Caleb Grummet (Grummet is now a professional and will fight on Saturday night). Also, XCC Heavyweight champion Carnell Giles will be making his third title defense.
And then on Saturday, March 6, just the second professionally sanctioned MMA event in the state’s history will take place (Flynn and Ahrens also did the first last January), topped by the Butterbean main event and supported by a roll-call of fighters who make up the area’s best, including Miquel Barcelo, Brett Biederman, Chris Bourdon, Parris Boyd, Brad Burrick, Daron Cruickshank, Jeremy Czarnecki, Anthony Gott, Jesse Gross, Caleb Grummet, Bo Harris, Chris Harris, David Herlein, Dan Langbeen, Ray Lopez, Chucky Mady, Steve Milliron, Ali Mokdad, William Penn, Calvin O'Neil, Mike Roberts, Anthony Smith, Michael Sparks, Harley Wallen, Dan Whetsel and TJ Yakuber.
Flynn and his XCC, whose mixed martial arts career began at the very same Emerald Ballroom, says he’s excited about the atmosphere surrounding the weekend. “The fans lucky enough to get a ticket for either night are guaranteed a night of non-stop action – and the best part is it’s where it all started for the XCC right here in the Ballroom.”
On Friday, March 5, doors open at 6:30 and the action starts at 7:30. Tickets are available at ticketmaster.com or the Emerald Theatre box office (586) 913-1920 and are priced between $25 and $75. VIP seats are available starting at $180. Group sales are also available by calling (248) 202-4662.
