Ali Cali vs. Montilla Jr. set for March 29th in Manila

Mar 24, 2014

(PRESS RELEASE) -- Former champion Ale Cali and up-and-coming brawler Ernesto Montilla Jr. collide on Saturday, March 29 in Manila to earn the opportunity to fight for the vacant PXC flyweight title.

Don’t let the humble demeanor and ready smiles fool you. These are two of the meanest and most ferocious MMA fighters the Philippines has ever produced. And they are on a direct collision course against each other.

The result can only be brutal. And epic.

On March 29 at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City, Philippines, Ale “The Young Gun” Cali and Ernesto “Iron” Montilla Jr. will headline PXC 43 in a much-awaited bout that is expected to be an all-out war between the two brawlers. Not only will they be fighting for bragging rights, the winner will also be stepping closer to a world title showdown for PXC’s vacant world flyweight crown.

Cali is no stranger to being on top of the heap, having worn the world champion’s belt after a TKO win against Jesse Taitano back in February 2012 in PXC 29 and successfully defending it by retiring Erwin Tagle in November of the same year. He, however, lost in his second defense of the title against the much bigger and longer Louis Smolka of Hawaii in PXC 41 last year. Now Cali aims to bounce back and get on track once more for another crack at a PXC world champion belt.

Directly in the Young Gun’s line of fire is the quick and agile Iron who is a force both on his feet and on the ground. Montilla is coming off a unanimous decision win against Jinel Lausa also in PXC 41 and is looking to start a winning streak that can bring him to a much-coveted world title fight.

Hungry, pumped up, and raring to prove they belong in the big leagues, Cali and Montilla can only dish out one epic battle come fight night.

PXC 43 offers a stacked card of guaranteed to be exciting and memorable fights that include a women’s bout featuring the Philippines’s Gina Iniong against Japan’s Mei Yamaguchi. Iniong successfully debuted in PXC 41 with a first-round demolition of Australian Nathalie Heidel while the more experienced Yamaguchi is coming off a split decision loss in PXC 40. Expect fireworks when these two square off atop the ring.

PXC 43 is presented by Red Horse Beer and Sports 5. Tickets are available at SM Tickets and Ticketworld.
