Week of UFC on Fox 5 Programming Begins on NFL Sunday with ‘Road to the Octagon’

Fox and its affiliate networks will offer up a full slate of UFC content ahead of next Saturday’s prime-time UFC on Fox 5 card.

Fox Sports Media Group on Thursday issued a release detailing its coverage of the event, which will see UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson defend his belt against top contender Nate Diaz in the evening’s headliner.

Fox launches its week of coverage this Sunday, Dec. 2, with “UFC on Fox 5: Road to the Octagon,” an hour-long special which examines how the show’s main-card fighters “range in style, strategy and preparation.” While UFC President Dana White stated on a recent media conference call that the program would occupy the prime time slot after Fox’s NFL Sunday coverage, Thursday’s release notes that the special could potentially air prior to the game, at either 3:00 or 4:30 p.m. ET.

“Road to the Octagon” will also re-air Tuesday, Dec. 4, on Fuel TV at 9:00 p.m. ET. Immediately following that broadcast will be new episodes of “UFC Tonight” (10:00 p.m. ET) and “UFC Ultimate Insider” (10:30 p.m. ET) focused on the championship bout.

The UFC’s 155-pound champ will be featured on Wednesday, Dec. 5, when Fuel TV will air “Benson Henderson: Rising Up,” a 60-minute “documentary-style special” which aims to provide a “raw look” at Henderson’s life outside the cage.

The event’s official weigh-in takes place Friday, Dec. 7, and airs live on Fuel TV at 7:00 p.m. ET from Seattle’s KeyArena.

Finally, Dec. 8’s preliminary card will be broadcast live in a three-hour special on FX (5:00 p.m. ET), followed by the main card on Fox (8:00 p.m. ET). Longtime UFC announcers Mike Goldberg and Joe Rogan will call all of the evening’s bouts from Seattle, while the team of Curt Menefee, Brian Stann and Randy Couture will provide main-card analysis from Fox Network Center in Los Angeles.
