UFC on Fuel 1 Gets Menjivar-Albert Bantamweight Tilt

The UFC on Fuel 1 fight card continued to develop Tuesday, as promotion officials announced that veteran Ivan Menjivar will square off with “The Ultimate Fighter 14” cast member John Albert at the Feb. 15 event.

The bantamweight contest joins a bill headlined by a pivotal welterweight bout pitting Jake Ellenberger against Diego Sanchez. Situated at CenturyLink Center in Omaha, Neb., the event marks the first of six planned live UFC events on Fox subsidiary Fuel TV in 2012.

Eliminated by John Dodson in the “TUF 14” quarterfinals, Albert made his official Octagon debut at the Dec. 3 season finale, where the once-beaten Washingtonian knocked out Dustin Pague in just 69 seconds. Representing Victory Athletics, “Prince Albert” has finished all seven of his conquered foes, earning four knockouts in his four years as a professional.

Menjivar (Pictured), 29, debuted with the UFC as a lightweight in 2004, dropping a unanimous decision to Matt Serra. The 10-year veteran made his return to the Octagon at 135 pounds this past April and notched a technical knockout victory over Charlie Valencia. “The Pride of El Salvador” earned his second win of 2011 in August, besting Nick Pace by unanimous decision at UFC 133.
