UFC on FX 5 Salaries: Ellenberger ($84,000), Silva ($70,000) Earn Top Paydays in Minneapolis




Jake Ellenberger garnered the biggest payday at UFC on FX 5, taking home $84,000 for his unanimous decision victory over Jay Hieron ($12,000) in their Oct. 5 welterweight bout.

Other top earners for the event, which took place at the Target Center in Minneapolis, included Strikeforce veteran Antonio Silva ($70,000), Team Quest product Mike Pierce ($44,000) and former NCAA All-American wrestler Jacob Volkmann ($40,000). The Minnesota Office of Combative Sports released the figures to Sherdog.com on Monday.

Silva captured his first Octagon victory in the evening’s main event, stopping Jackson’s MMA representative Travis Browne ($20,000) with punches 3:27 into round one of their heavyweight tilt. Browne would later reveal that he tore his hamstring during the contest and will be sidelined two to four months.

Earlier on the main card, John Dodson ($30,000) became the No. 1 contender at flyweight with a second-round TKO of Jussier da Silva ($9,000), while Justin Edwards ($20,000) submitted Josh Neer ($16,000) with a guillotine choke 45 seconds into their 170-pound conflict.

The disclosed purses reported by state athletic commissions do not include any performance-based or discretionary bonuses that may be awarded to a fighter by the promotion. Additionally, the reported figures do not reflect any deductions made by the commission for taxes, insurance, etc., and do not include any sponsorship money that a fighter may acquire for their performance.
