UFC on ESPN 60 ‘Lemos vs. Jandiroba’ Play-by-Play, Results & Round Scoring

Sherdog's live UFC on ESPN 60 coverage will begin Saturday at 5:30 p.m. ET.

Thomas Petersen (258.5) vs. Mohammed Usman (236.5)

BETTING PREVIEW | SCOUTING REPORT | ODDS: Petersen (+110), Usman (-115)

Round 1

The UFC continues its contractual obligations to ESPN with a fight card that leaves a lot to be desired, but could still promise plenty of action and intensity when it’s all over. Rather than featuring this first fight on the main card like usual, the unranked heavyweight slobberknocker will serve as the curtain jerker. Usman (10-3, 3-1 UFC), younger brother of ex-welterweight king Kamaru Usman, will try to bounce back from his first loss in the promotion. He draws knockout-minded Petersen (8-2, 0-1 UFC), who will try to do the same. Petersen, nicknamed “The Train,” still whiffs on the opportunity to be known as “Thomas the Tank Engine.” Referee Kerry Hatley receives the first assignment of the evening, and he clocks the big men in as they consider bumping fists but decide against it. Usman moves to the center of the cage and paws his hands out feet away from the target, and Petersen parries any potential jab to come his way. Usman manages to get one in when Petersen is coming forward, and Petersen reaches him back with a short left. Usman makes Petersen wipe his face when the jab hits him flush in the eye socket, causing Petersen to crash the pocket and grab hold of his neck to get a head lock on him. Usman wriggles out of danger and scoots away before a submission is set up, and he fights behind his jab again. Petersen slowly walks him down, slapping away some jabs but already showing some redness around his left eye. Usman plants a cross on the chin, and Petersen shrugs it off and plods ever forward. Usman reaches his man with a one-two, but Petersen ignores it to land one of his own. Usman sticks with the jab and slip away from a counter, and Petersen races after him throwing punches that largely miss. Petersen does connect with a left hook after resetting, but it is one-and-done and met shortly thereafter with a jab. Petersen shoots in from a distance for a takedown, and although it is stuffed, he brings up a knee on the break. Usman prods his foe with multiple jabs, including one to the body, and Petersen bursts into action swinging hooks. Usman defends against most of the strikes, but a few catch him and make him turn away momentarily. He gets his bearings and pushes out a few more jabs, but the hand-fighting Petersen stops them from reaching. Petersen sneaks in an uppercut as Usman is strafing, and as he leads forward, his forehead bounces off Usman. The jabs of Usman have opened up a slight cut on the top of Petersen’s cheek, and Petersen does not even register it and instead advances with a flurry including a couple of looping punches that land cleanly. The round ends as Petersen gets off a body kick.

Round 2

Both heavyweights meander out of their corner measuring one another in alternating stances. Usman starts off with a jab or two, and Petersen closes distance and tags him with a left hook. Petersen does this again, stunning Usman for a moment but not capitalizing on the damaging blow. Usman snaps out another jab, and Petersen does the same to the body. Usman follows a jab with a right hand, and Petersen replies with a three-punch salvo with far more mustard on it. Usman catches up with a single right hook, only for Petersen to be ready to throw back harder. Usman strings a few blows together that bounce off the target, and Petersen walks through to score a straight right. Usman smacks him with a standing hammerfist that has no effect, and he keeps his distance with jabs until Petersen gets to him and changes levels. Petersen secures a double-leg takedown with minimal effort, putting “The Motor” on his back and landing practically in half guard. Usman turns to give up his back to stand up, and he succeeds with sheer horsepower. Usman bursts out of the brief standing back control from Petersen and knocks him back with a jab, and he has succeeded in giving Petersen a shiner. Petersen races ahead, dipping down and connecting with an uppercut, and Usman gets out of range before eating another. Petersen loops a left hand over the guard, and Usman tries to flick out a few jabs to disrupt him but Petersen gives chase once more. Usman escapes and appears still stuck in first gear, while Petersen is reaching him with much stronger strikes. They land at the same time with alternating hooks, and Petersen follows his with a stern kick to the ribs. Usman fakes low and goes high with a winging right hand, and Petersen parries it and defends the shot that comes after it. Petersen reaches his man with a number of lunging right hands, and the round ends with Usman whipping a right hand that scores right at the bell.

Round 3

The big men come out swinging, and Usman is putting more behind his strikes but Petersen is still clubbing him with the heavier blows. When Petersen lands flush, Usman stands stunned for a moment. Petersen catches Usman unaware, and he follows with two punches before Usman can shake it out. Usman flails back, and Petersen does the same in a sloppy exchange. Usman tries to pay Petersen back for the heavy strikes he sustained, but his arms are labored and he is swinging himself off-balance repeatedly. Usman calms down and paws out a jab, and a right hook after it bounces off the guard. Petersen pushes the pace on him, and shoves Usman back when Usman tries to shell up. Petersen gets off a trio of his own jabs, and when Usman ducks down, he times an uppercut. Usman jabs the body and comes over the top with a right hand, and he gets his head snapped back by a powerful left hand by “The Train.” Usman briefly puts Petersen on the back foot, but that changes with one straight left hand from Petersen. Usman jabs and rifles off a right hand, perhaps his best punch of the fight, but he backs away instead of pursuing more. Petersen gets his hands on Usman with a solid combination, surpassing the good work that Usman just showed. Petersen shoots for a takedown, and Usman shucks him out of the way and keeps on jabbing. Petersen intercepts his man with a check right hook, drawing some blood from the nose, and he is met with a few jabs right back. Petersen splits the guard with a straight left hand, and he keeps his hands up to defend from a wide right hand. Petersen drops down suddenly and grabs hold of Usman’s leg, lifting it way up and throwing Usman to the floor. Petersen leaps on top, delivering some ground-and-pound and even considering a brief power guillotine, but he elects to keep slugging until time expires.

Luana Carolina (125.5) vs. Lucie Pudilova (126)

BETTING PREVIEW | SCOUTING REPORT | ODDS: Carolina (-115), Pudilova (-105)

Round 1

Flyweights take center stage next, in a battle between two women with finish rates of 40% or lower. Referee Mark Smith may be in it for the long haul when he serves as the middleman between Carolina (10-4, 5-3 UFC) and Pudilova (14-9, 3-7 UFC), as the former has reached the third round in six straight outings while the latter has gone at least into Round 2 in every fight since 2016. The ladies touch gloves before getting after it, and Carolina is quick to get behind a long jab. Carolina lets loose with a body kick, and she leans back as Pudilova buzzes her with two looping strikes. Carolina stomps at the advancing Czech fighter’s knee, and she kicks at the calf while staying out of boxing range. Carolina goes up high with a kick that smacks into the guard and makes Pudilova shake her hand out, and she returns to kicking out the knee. Pudilova moves with a slow jab and tries to chain it into a one-two, but Carolina is well out of arm’s reach before it gets to her. Carolina sits down on a head kick that is narrowly blocked, and Pudilova does not bat an eye and dodges a head kick on the other side shortly thereafter. Pudilova jabs out, and Carolina beats her to the punch with a one-two as she darts away. Carolina strikes the front leg a few more times and bounces away from a straight right hand from her foe, and she uses her hands to back Pudilova off. They both land single strikes and reset, and they try to do so again with hooks but come up short. Carolina swings another high kick up that slams into the gloves of her foe, and she slips and strikes with a left hand as Pudilova reels and counters. Pudilova powers her way into the clinch, and she knees the Brazilian once and is met with a few from “Dread” until they wind up against the fence. They break away from it but are still stuck together, trading knees, and Carolina lashes out with an elbow that cuts Pudilova’s right eyebrow open. Blood drips right into Pudilova’s eyes, and Carolina targets the other side of the face with a front-leg head kick. Pudilova swings her way into a combination, and Carolina ducks and ties her up. Pudilova grabs the fence twice to not get taken down, resulting in Smith slapping her hand away. Carolina drives several knees to the body until Pudilova explodes her way out, and Carolina meets her with another sharp elbow. Pudilova shoots for a takedown, and Carolina intercepts her with a staggering knee but she still gets dragged to her seat. Pudilova unleashes a bit of ground-and-pound, and the horn sounds.

Tyler Treese scores the round: 10-9 Carolina

Round 2

The women tap gloves to begin, and Pudilova loops a left hand around a jab to get going. Carolina smacks her upside the head with a kick, and Pudilova reaches her with a few punches before Carolina can get away. Carolina drops her hands and kicks Pudilova in the ribs, and she weaves back and gets off another high kick that is partially blocked. Pudilova presses forward, a mouse quickly swelling on her temple, and she nails Carolina with a right hand to begin a powerful combo. Carolina may be shaken up, and she gets pushed back to the wall. Carolina embraces the clinch so she can clear any cobwebs, and she breaks off and is met with a pair of jabs. Carolina gives one back, her feet fully beneath her, and she comes up short with a head kick. The Brazilian releases a leg kick and misses the mark with a one-two, but a left hand to the body does reach the target. Carolina keeps chipping at the front leg as she stays elusive and frustrating her opponent, and she loops a left over the jab. Pudilova fakes a takedown and comes up high so she can set up a Thai clinch, and Carolina welcomes this so they can trade knees from up close and personal. Pudilova jams Carolina up against the wire, and “Dread” hangs on with her hands behind her foe’s head to set something up and settles for a few knees to the body. Pudilova breaks off with a left hook, and she advances forward again to tie Carolina up once more while swinging an elbow. Carolina is able to protect herself from the elbow, push Pudilova away and swat out with kicks from both legs. Carolina bounces in an out of range, and when she powers forward, Pudilova times a takedown and gets in on the hips. Carolina springs back to the fencing and lines up a guillotine choke, so Pudilova bursts out of the submission and drills her foe with a mean elbow. The two split apart and come together once more, kneeing one another in the midsection until Pudilova presses her opponent against the wall once more. Carolina rips an elbow up top and circles away, and Pudilova rings her bell with a left hook right before the bell rings.

Round 3

Gloves are touched begin the final frame, and once more, Pudilova swats out the next second with a looping left. Carolina sees it coming and sways away, and Pudilova continues to walk her down. Carolina jabs with the ball of her foot, and she absorbs a jab in response but does not flinch. The Brazilian goes high with a kick, and she catches a body kick and thinks about dumping Pudilova to the mat but lets it go to strike with her. Pudilova comes in throwing body shots before ending up in the clinch, and Carolina shucks her out of the way and lets loose two high kicks with her back leg. Carolina tosses a left hook over the top, and she brings up an intercepting knee as Pudilova ducks down. Carolina pushes out a one-two, and she whips a body kick after it and is ready for Pudilova to bear down on her. Pudilova does just that, and she eats a left hook on the break. The Czech woman pays her back with a left hand that stands Carolina up, and Carolina gathers herself and lets off a number of kicks with both legs before Pudilova can get to her. Carolina chips away with kicks, keeping to kickboxing range while dodging the punches that soar past her. As Carolina kicks her opponent in the ribcage, Pudilova grabs hold of the leg, but she cannot do anything with it. Carolina prods out with a jab, a body kick, and when she slips a punch she comes back with a left hook. Pudilova charges with a minute to go, dropping down low and securing a takedown to plant “Dread” on her back. Carolina wraps her guard around the waist, leaving it open so that she can land elbows off her back. When Smith asks for more work, Carolina closes her guard, and Pudilova tries to punch her way through it with labored hammerfists. Carolina stays busy from off her back, arguably landing the better blows even when stuck on her back, and the fight draws to a close.

Trey Ogden (156) vs. Loik Radzhabov (155.5)

BETTING PREVIEW | SCOUTING REPORT | ODDS: Radzhabov (-115), Ogden (-105)

Round 1

After suffering the first stoppage loss in his career, Radzhabov (18-5-1, 2-1 UFC) bounced back in a big way by clubbing Abdul-Kareem Al-Selwady in March. He hopes to pull another knockout rabbit out of his hat when he throws down with Marathon MMA head coach Ogden (17-6, 1 NC; 2-2, 1 NC UFC). Of note, Ogden’s last victory came over Kurt Holobaugh, and yet Holobaugh will fight much higher up on this card tonight. The third man in the Octagon will be referee Herb Dean, and the lightweights touch ‘em up. Radzhabov is ready and waiting when Ogden comes after him, and he coils and fires a right hand to back Ogden off. “The Shamurai” ducks a second looping punch, and he snatches up the legs of his opponent and deposits Radzhabov down to the canvas to send an early message. Radzhabov posts off his right arm and tries to work himself up to his knees, and Ogden holds on from behind and looks for a mat return. Radzhabov grabs the fence, and the onlookers cry foul as Dean takes a look but does say anything. Ogden succeeds in dragging “The Tajik Tank” down from behind, getting both of his hooks in as he is quick to search for a rear-naked choke. Ogden drapes his arm on Radzhabov’s face and squeezes, and he lets it go as Radzhabov turns around to his knees. Ogden smacks Radzhabov on the sides of the head from behind as he looks to flatten Radzhabov, and he goes hunting for another rear-naked choke that nearly gets beneath the chin. Ogden turns Radzhabov over and secures a body triangle, and he softens Radzhabov up with strikes on either side. Radzhabov twists and turns but is unable to get the body lock off of him, and Ogden makes his life miserable by covering his mouth and holding tight. Ogden tries for a brute force neck crank, but Radzhabov turns his head to the right direction to stop it from going anywhere. Radzhabov hand-fights effectively to stop Ogden from sinking the choke in, and he turns over to his knees but is unsuccessful to get out thanks in part to Ogden’s body triangle. Ogden gets closer on his choke attempt, but once more Radzhabov defends it properly. Ogden gets a forearm on the chin, and he thinks about using a face crank but does not decide to turn his arms out. Radzhabov defends himself enough to survive the round.

Round 2

Before the second round begins, Dean brings in the translator to issue a hard warning for Radzhabov grabbing the fence in the previous round. Radzhabov acknowledges this and the round begins. Radzhabov comes out firing, and Ogden is elusive enough to avoid the worst of the blows but takes a solid uppercut before tying Radzhabov up. Radzhabov spins away and whips a left hook at his man, and he races forward swinging hard. Radzhabov stifles a desperate single, and Ogden is backed up against the cage wall and gets clipped by the hard-swinging fighter known as “The Tajik Tank.” Ogden lands a low kick to briefly slow Radzhabov down, and he brings up a knee when they clinch for a second. Ogden tosses out a left hand as he wobbles back from big right hands from his adversary, and Radzhabov swings that same blow at him several times to moderate effect. Ogden checks a leg kick and gives one back, and Radzhabov crashes the pocket and lands two thudding right hooks before Ogden ties him up again. Ogden chooses to break free and reset, and Radzhabov continues plodding forward swinging mighty fists. The fighter from Tajikistan connects with a stern uppercut, and Ogden replies with a body lock and a takedown that he lands with relative ease. Even easier, Ogden walks into full mount, and he uses a modified arm-triangle choke to flatten Radzhabov out from above. Ogden sits down on the arm-triangle choke and presses his weight down, and Radzhabov’s face starts changing colors even as he defends the grip by answering the phone. Ogden leans down on one side and remains in full mount as he does so, and he elects to move to the side to complete it but loses the grip and hops back to mount. Radzhabov survives the submission as Ogden uses heavy shoulder pressure to frustrate him, and he bucks as hard as he can to scramble and get Ogden off of him. Ogden looks to flip him over and trap him in a submission roll, but he cannot keep Radzhabov grounded. Both men get to their feet, and Radzhabov tries and fails to land power strikes before the bell.

Round 3

Radzhabov’s corner spills ice and water on the floor, a veteran move to get more time, and someone has to rush into the cage to wipe up the excess liquid as Joe Rogan is screaming at his screen from afar. Ogden begins the round by backpedaling when Radzhabov comes at him, and he uses Radzhabov’s momentum against him by tackling him to the mat and landing in a controlling half guard. Ogden bops Radzhabov with a few short, light strikes before wrapping his left arm around the back of Radzhabov’s head to set up another submission. Like a snake, Ogden slowly and methodically wraps up the arm-triangle choke, and Radzhabov keeps himself from getting snared entirely but cannot keep Ogden from climbing into the full mount position. Radzhabov smacks Ogden on the side of the head with his free right hand, irritating Ogden enough to bring his hand up to block the blows before lowering himself all the way flat on top. An Ezekiel choke is briefly in play for “Shamurai,” but he decides against wrapping his forearm on the windpipe so he can drill Radzhabov in the face with shoulder shots. Dean calls for more action even with Ogden in mount, and Radzhabov answers the call and explodes upright and falls into a guillotine choke. Radzhabov spins out of it and flips Ogden to his back, and he hammers down with vicious ground-and-pound until Ogden ties him up for a second. Ogden uses a butterfly guard to put his feet on the hips and hits a sweep, but Radzhabov is savvy enough to lower himself into the guard and posture up to blast Ogden with heavy punches. Radzhabov grabs the fence to turn himself in an effort to secure better position, and Dean goes to slap his hand but Radzhabov pulls it back to release more punches and elbows on Ogden’s dome. Ogden retaliates by sending Radzhabov flying when he kicks off the hips, and Radzhabov races after him to get on top and ride out the remainder of the bout.

Dione Barbosa (125.5) vs. Miranda Maverick (125.5)

BETTING PREVIEW | SCOUTING REPORT | ODDS: Maverick (-218), Barbosa (+180)

Round 1

Shifting gears back to the flyweight category, the U.S. battles Brazil as Maverick (13-5, 6-3 UFC) looks to bewitch “The Witch” Barbosa (7-2, 1-0 UFC) across their three-round endeavor. With exactly twice as much experience as her opponent, and as many fights in the UFC as Barbosa holds as a pro, Maverick will come into the match five years the younger. Referee Chris Tognoni takes charge of this pairing, and he claps the two in as they clap hands. Both women flirt with the middle of the cage, tossing a single strike at one another to test the waters. Maverick kicks the lead leg, and Barbosa replies with a front kick up the middle. Barbosa chops at the front leg, and Maverick replies. The two trade leg kicks, and Maverick grins after an exchange. Both women reach at one another with rangy punches and miss the mark, and then try head kicks that rebound off one another’s guards. They go tit-for-tat after one another, seemingly mirroring one another with attempted strikes. Barbosa picks up her leg after eating a particularly effective low kick, and Maverick targets it once more and ducks away from a sudden wheel kick. Maverick chops at the thigh with a kick, and when the Brazilian closes the distance, she plants two punches on the jaw and slips away. Maverick strikes the lead leg, turning it red less than halfway through Round 1, and she rushes out with jabs outstretched. They both swing and miss on distance strikes, their corners celebrating whether they land or not. Maverick continues to work the calf at the end of combinations, and Barbosa preemptively lifts her leg until crashing forward to take the fight down. Maverick reverses her and tosses the Brazilian to her back, and she fights through a leglock to lower herself down in half guard. Barbosa keeps a high guard to threaten from her back, but Maverick pushes through it to stay out of danger. Barbosa closes the high guard briefly, trying to control Maverick while Maverick controls her. Maverick’s offense dwindles to a few strikes and a knee to the posterior as seconds peel off the clock with little to show for them. Maverick raps her left hand over the top a few times to stay busy, working the head and body before hammering Barbosa with a few elbows. Barbosa looks for a submission setup, and Maverick shrugs it off to continue her ground-and-pound until the bell intervenes.

Round 2

The women try to clap hands to begin the second round and miss, and say heck with it and start swinging at one another. Maverick picks and pokes with low kicks before mixing it up with a head kick, and when that nearly gets through, she tries another seconds later. Barbosa defends a low single and tosses Maverick aside to kick her in the cheek, and she rushes forward to press the Missouri native against the fencing. Barbosa succeeds in hitting a throw to chuck Maverick to the floor, and Maverick is quick to climb back to her feet despite the head lock toss. Maverick breaks away from the clinch and eats a sudden spinning elbow, and she reaches out with a kick and is countered with one from the Brazilian. Maverick jabs to the head and body, keeping her hands up to block a head kick and crashing forward at the same time as her opponent to hit a takedown. Barbosa defends with a takedown, and Maverick pushes her against the wall, unconcerned by the choke, to trip “The Witch” to the canvas. Barbosa is stuck on her back absorbing sporadic punches, and Maverick stays tightly pressed to not let Barbosa sneak anything up on her. Barbosa turns to set up an armbar, and Maverick tosses Barbosa to the side and gets back on top. Barbosa uses the butterfly hooks from allowing Maverick to get her flat, but Maverick keeps to this position while kneeing Barbosa in the backside once. Maverick drops down short right hands as she assumes half guard, and she elbows Barbosa and smacks her with her shoulder before the round ends.

Round 3

They do touch gloves to open up the last stanza, and fists are soon to fly. Maverick sits down on three punches, and she leans back as a head kick buzzes her hair. Barbosa works her way forward and reaches out with a right hand after taking a low kick, and she connects with two more before Maverick’s back hits the wall. Barbosa tries to change levels, but Maverick’s takedown defends keeps her upright. As Maverick breaks off, she lands another calf kick and a right hand behind it, and Barbosa walks her down ready to throw leather. Maverick shoots in for a single, and Barbosa scrambles effectively to flip Maverick over and even set up a kneebar. Maverick fights through it and winds up on top, moving into the butterfly guard of her opponent. Maverick keeps tight and composed from above to put Barbosa flat on her back, and she grinds with an elbow to irritate the Brazilian. Maverick gets bucked off briefly, and she remains on top while getting in elbows until Barbosa turns for an armbar. Maverick no-sells it and pulls out of it, and she relocates herself in Barbosa’s guard. Maverick lands a shoulder strike, and it appears she may have headbutted Barbosa in the chest as well, but nothing comes of it. Maverick’s 125-pound-plus frame feels like 500 pounds as Barbosa cannot get enough space, try as she might. Maverick retains control and fully embraces the grind, sliding over to half guard and using her elbow to frame up and land shots. Maverick remains active from this position, doing so until time expires.

Cody Gibson (136) vs. Brian Kelleher (136)

BETTING PREVIEW | SCOUTING REPORT | ODDS: Gibson (-205), Kelleher (+170)

Round 1

Rounding out the rocky prelims is an aging 135er with a .500 record in the promotion against a fellow fighter over the age of 35 a loss away from reaching the dreaded “Sinosic Line.” Gibson (19-10, 1-5 UFC) is not the only fighter to sport this record of 1-5 with the potential to go 1-6 tonight, but more on that later. He battles the hyper-aggressive Kelleher (24-15, 8-8 UFC), and this one has the potential of ending in the blink of an eye. Referee Kerry Hatley is ready for whatever happens next, and that is a touch of gloves. Kelleher immediately goes on the offensive with a leg kick and a front kick. Gibson gives him back an overhand right to make Kelleher take a funny step back, and he connects with two more punches that make Kelleher turn away and have to recover. Kelleher gets back to the middle of the cage and kicks a few more times, and he is reached with a front kick by “The Renegade.” Gibson connects with a calf kick, and he misses with a one-two. Kelleher races forward swinging fists, and Gibson grabs hold of him and manages to take his back standing to wrench him down to a knee. Kelleher pops back up, but the second effort for Gibson succeeds. Kelleher tries to set up a guillotine choke, and Gibson frees himself and assumes top position. Kelleher fights his way back to his feet in a hurry, and Gibson grinds on him as he looks for a mat return. Gibson succeeds in putting Kelleher down for a second, only for “Boom” to explode to his feet again. Kelleher hand-fights to spin out but eats a knee on the break. Gibson races after him with an uppercut and a slashing elbow, and he pushes Kelleher to the fence. Kelleher welcomes him with a knee, and Gibson gives him a few back. Kelleher turns eats an elbow that drops him to a knee, but Kelleher recovers and pursues a takedown. Gibson turns him away and attacks for his own takedown, leading to Kelleher jumping guard for a guillotine choke. “The Renegade” breaks out of the choke and moves into half guard, where he almost instantly locks down an arm-triangle choke. Kelleher is stuck in a precarious position, and when he tries to fight out of it, he finds that Gibson is an immovable stone on his body. Kelleher surrenders before going out, and tonight has its first finish. Gibson earns his first victory since his first stint in the promotion in 2014, and he is elated to get his hand raised in the Octagon for the second time.

Hyder Amil (145) vs. Jeong Yeong Lee (145.5)

BETTING PREVIEW | SCOUTING REPORT | ODDS: Lee (-185), Amil (+154)

Round 1

Bumped up to the main card due to some Friday card changes, Road to UFC Season 2 pickup Lee (11-1, 2-0 UFC) gets to show his stuff on ESPN. He will trade blows with Gilbert Melendez-trained Amil (9-0, 1-0 UFC), whose unbeaten record is on the line. Win streaks of eight and nine, respectively, will meet, and referee Mark Smith will handle the particulars. The surging featherweights do not touch ‘em up, with Lee racing out of his corner only to be met with a snappy front kick. Lee barely blocks the strike in time and gets clipped with a right hand when coming forward. Lee pushes forward with a front kick, and the two decide that it would be in their best interest to start brawling. Amil gets his bell rung during the wild exchange and backs off, and he clears his head and gets right back to it. The two throw everything they have at one another, blasting one another so violently that commentator Daniel Cormier starts squeaking. “The Hurricane” unleashes an incredible storm of offense, swinging with hook after devastating hook to bat Lee’s head around like a 145-pound speed bag. Lee tries feebly to throw back, and he manages to connect with some, but Amil is not about to stop throwing. After about three dozen ridiculous punches wreck Lee, who is leaning against the cage wall to keep himself upright, Smith rushes between them to call off the fight. Lee does not protest, as he is teetering on the edge of consciousness after absorbing so many hellacious blows in such a short span. Amil peels back and celebrates his handiwork that took just over a minute, pushing his record to 10-0 and putting the entire division on notice. What a way to practically guarantee yourself a post-fight bonus. After the fight concludes, commentator Laura Sanko admits that the fight "broke her pants." Imagine that as you will.

Action is on the menu for this potential featherweight brawl—good luck living up to the match that preceded this one—with Choi (14-4-1, 3-3-1 UFC) aiming for his first win since 2016 while Algeo (18-8, 5-4 UFC) tries to keep himself above .500 in the Octagon. Both men do not shy away from a slugfest, and referee Herb Dean will hope to keep a lid on things and not get hit with any errant blows. The two touch gloves before swinging for the bleachers, and Choi positions himself in the center of the cage ready to advance. Algeo pushes forward and lets fly a body kick, and he jumps forward and swings his way into a single-leg takedown entry. Choi jumps guard with a guillotine choke to defend it, and Algeo fights it by pushing off Choi’s face. As Algeo bucks, he manages to get out of the choke, and his red face turns back to its standard shade. The two find themselves in the clinch, with Choi landing soft knees to the inner thigh. Choi hits a hip toss and lands in side control, keeping his arm draped around the chest like a seatbelt as Algeo tries to get up. Choi latches on with a rear-naked choke, and when Algeo stands up, he wags his finger to signal that the choke is not at the right angle and will not catch him. “Senor Perfecto” bucks Choi off of him and dumps him to the ground, where he establishes top position. The South Korean does not stay grounded for long, working his way up to his feet thanks to the fence behind him. Choi looks to trip Algeo out, and Algeo tosses him aside. They touch gloves when separating, and Algeo is fired up and ready to trade. Algeo cracks “The Korean Superboy” with a huge right hand and spins with an elbow that smashes Choi right in the face, but his balance does not falter. Algeo changes levels and sets Choi on his seat, keeping Choi down for a few seconds before Choi fights back to his feet and gets upright. Choi drives two knees to the forehead before Algeo drops to one knee, and Choi lands an illegal knee that is not called. Choi jumps guard for another guillotine, and Algeo pops his head out with 10 seconds to spare in the wild round. Algeo concludes the first frame on top.

Round 2

The fighters touch gloves before resuming the madness, and Algeo quickly darts forward twice and pulls back as many times. Choi reaches his man with a right hand, and Algeo comes over the top with an overhand right. Choi counters with a big right, and Algeo cocks his head to the side to acknowledge the blow. They trade leg kicks, and Choi walks face-first into a check left hook. Choi blinks it out several times and wipes his eye, and he dips back to dodge a head kick. Algeo pushes off with a side kick, and they hand-fight until Algeo crashes the pocket throwing hands. Choi escapes the worst of the blows and snaps off a quick jab. Leg kicks are once more traded, and Choi digs a right hand to the midsection. Algeo scores a side kick and has a sudden spinning hook kick bounce off the raised guard. Choi catches his man with a right hand, and Algeo shakes it off and tosses back two head kicks. Algeo looks to counter a jab with two looping hooks, and he spins with a back fist that grazes the cheek and results in a clinch. Choi turns him around and chucks Algeo to the mat like a side of beef, and Algeo stands right back up and drops to a knee to prevent knees from catching him on the chin. Choi holds on from above, and the two scramble until Algeo tags him with an elbow. Choi makes him pay with two crisp punches, and Algeo returns fire. Choi splits Algeo open with a one-two, and it appears to have damaged Algeo’s eye socket or otherwise compromised “Senor Perfecto.” Choi races towards his opponent, and he is met with a spinning back elbow that bounces off the shoulder. Choi slugs the Pennsylvanian in the face with a brutal left hand, and Algeo turns and the pain suddenly overtakes him. Algeo turns, wags his finger as if to say enough is enough, and drops to a knee. Dean sees that Algeo’s goose is cooked, and he rushes in between the fighters to call a halt to the hard-swinging contest. Choi sprints away to celebrate with his corner, including the beloved “Korean Zombie,” having picked up his first win since 2016.

Cody Durden (125.5) vs. Bruno Silva (126)

BETTING PREVIEW | SCOUTING REPORT | ODDS: Durden (-122), Silva (+102)

Round 1

In the only other fight on the billing beyond the main event with UFC-ranked fighter, top-15 Durden (16-5-1, 5-3-1 UFC) would like nothing more than to put a rough face crank submission loss in December behind him. He will meet fellow grappler Silva (13-5-2, 1 NC; 3-2, 1 NC UFC) in the center of the cage, in what could be an interesting clash of styles on the mat. Referee Chris Tognoni is ready whether it lasts three minutes or all three rounds, and he commences the match as the 125ers bump fists. Durden is quick to lash out with a body kick, and he walks Silva down and marks Silva’s left eye up early with punches. Durden changes levels, and the two bonk heads as Tognoni tells them to be careful. Durden keeps chasing after his opponent, and Silva pushes him away and lands a sweeping leg kick. Silva races forward to tie the American up, and he lands a knee to the guts while Durden looks to trip Silva up. Durden scores a right at the break, and chases to land another long right hand before Silva can zip away. Silva pushes off with the ball of his foot, and he jabs the body and avoids a front kick. Durden clips his opponent with three punches, and he ducks when Silva tries to spin with a back fist to counter. Durden sits down on a chopping kick, and he evades a scooping uppercut and stops a takedown effort in its tracks from the Brazilian. Durden surges forward, fighting behind his jab, and he swipes with a left hook on his way in. Durden attacks with a leg kick, and he is countered with an overhand right. Durden connects with two hooks, and he meanders forward pawing with hooks until committing to one up top and another to the body. Silva misses with another big uppercut, but his front kick does land cleanly. Durden winds up with a huge right hand that busts into Silva’s nose, reddening his cheek and nose, and he wears it well. Durden parries a body shot, swipes out with a left hand and drills Silva with a right hand. Silva cries foul, and Tognoni pauses the action and calls for a replay to confirm that Durden’s fingers grazed the eyeball. The Brazilian needs a doctor to come in and wipe away his eye, and Tognoni goes to calmly warn Durden for the accidental foul. Silva informs Tognoni that he can continue, but needs a little more time to recover—he has four more minutes, and no booing crowd to urge him to return to combat sooner than he should. Silva tells Tognoni his eye is spasming, but he can keep going, and they get back to it after two minutes of recovery. Both men rush at one hellbent for leather, and the proceed to throw it hard. Both men tag the other, and Durden is warned for outstretched fingers. Silva kicks low as blood trickles out of his nostril, and Durden turns with a back kick that plants square in the solar plexus. Durden points to his success, and the round ends.

Scottie Smith scores the round: 10-9 Durden
Tyler Treese scores the round: 10-9 Durden

Round 2

The flyweights clock in for the second round, and Silva is smiling and ready to return to action. He strikes first in the form of a leg kick, and Durden answers him with a twitchy right hand. Durden finds success with it and beans the Brazilian with two more, putting “Bulldog” on skates. Silva backs off and shoots for a takedown, and Durden catches a brabo choke. Silva turns the proper direction, and he fights off a subsequent anaconda choke. Durden tries a third time to land a similar submission, and Silva survives all three and lowers himself to his back. Silva tries to tug off the fence links to find a better angle, and Durden lays flat on top of him. Silva wall-walks to his knees, and Durden is on him and drags him back down when Silva pops up. Durden stays glued to his man, but Silva explodes back to his feet and walks Durden down. “Bulldog” walks through a jab and drills Durden in the jaw with a ferocious uppercut, knocking his mouthpiece clean out and sending the American crashing to the canvas. Silva pounces and unloads with relentless right hands, pouring it on and drawing blood that sprays the mat as he beats Durden down. Silva continues landing as Tognoni asks for Durden to fight back, and when Durden’s arms go limp, he intervenes. This is a crazy comeback for Silva, who turns the tables with just one punch and may have performed some unauthorized dental work on the soon-to-be-unranked contender. This sport never fails to surprise, and no fighter is ever totally safe while the cage door is locked and both competitors are still in the fight.

Kurt Holobaugh (155) vs. Kaynan Kruschewsky (154)

BETTING PREVIEW | SCOUTING REPORT | ODDS: Kruschewsky (-135), Holobaugh (+114)

Round 1

A loss away from reaching the aforementioned “Sinosic Line,” Holobaugh (20-8, 1 NC; 1-5 UFC) hopes that he will stave that infamous stat off like Gibson did earlier tonight. The promotion matches him up against 2023 Contender Series signee Kruschewsky (15-2, 1 NC; 0-1 UFC), who plans on making the most of a second try in the UFC. Both men celebrate stoppage rates of 85% or higher, so referee Kerry Hatley steels himself for the upcoming violence. The lightweights touch gloves, and Holobaugh moves himself to the center of the cage, where he lets go with a jab and a right hand. The two fighters clinch up in a hurry, and Holobaugh stays active with body with as Kruschewsky breaks out of it slashing with elbow that miss the target by a matter of inches. Holobaugh closes in and knees his opponent as he ties the Brazilian up once more, and they jockey for position and spam knees. Holobaugh delivers uppercuts to the guts, and Kruschewsky knees the middle back. Holobaugh lowers himself down for a single, and he bails on it to come up top throwing hands. Kruschewsky counters and strafes away and Holobaugh reaches after him with a front kick. Kruschewsky counters a punch with a right hand and knees his man in the chest, and Holobaugh ties him up again to bully him to the fencing. Kruschewsky threatens with a guillotine choke in response to Holobaugh’s single-leg entry, lessening his grip when Holobaugh abandons the takedown. Kruschewsky pushes off and lands a right hand, and Holobaugh punches his way back in. Kruschewsky drives a knee to the chest and gets off a right hand, and he breaks free with another knee to the dome. A right to the head is followed by a left to the body from Kruschewsky, who plants a right hand on the jaw to follow. Holobaugh gets off a one-two, and he stings Kruschewsky with a few more punches and marks the Brazilian’s eye socket up. Kruschewsky fires back with bad intentions, and Holobaugh walks into a Superman punch and clinches right up. Holobaugh goes after another single, and Kruschewsky locks up a 10-fighter power guillotine choke that he uses to knee Holobaugh in the both. Holobaugh breaks free, and the two dirty box and separate. Both fighters nail one another with looping punches, and Holobaugh tries to give chase and add to them but misses the mark and gets his front leg kicked. Kruschewsky lands a left hand, and when his opponent gets up close to him, he plants two more knees to the belly to end the round.

Sherdog Scores

Jay Pettry scores the round: 10-9 Kruschewsky
Scottie Smith scores the round: 10-9 Holobaugh
Tyler Treese scores the round: 10-9 Holobaugh

Round 2

It takes mere seconds for the two lightweights to meet in the middle and trade hands. Holobaugh catches the Brazilian at the end of a particularly fierce left hook, and Kruschewsky stumbles back but shakes it off and regains his footing. Holobaugh swings his way into close proximity, and he ties Kruschewsky up and finds himself in guillotine choke danger. Kruschewsky jumps for the choke, which he uses to roll to mount for a second. Holobaugh rolls through it and gets back to his feet, and he attacks a single. Kruschewsky retaliates with a brabo choke, and he locks it down and lowers Holobaugh down to the floor. Holobaugh gains just a little space to breathe, and this allows him to break out of the choke and stand. Kruschewsky stands with him and jumps guard for another guillotine choke, and Holobaugh’s child unleashes an unearthly screech from the stands even though his father is not trapped in the submission. Holobaugh lands some ground-and-pound from above before getting out of the position and standing back up. Sensing that the Brazilian may be fading, Holobaugh walks Kruschewsky down and lays into him with combinations of punches. Kruschewsky bounces off the cage wall, absorbing heavy damage but ultimately firing back with a knee that drives Holobaugh back. Kruschewsky catches Holobaugh with a combination, and he gets stood up with a left hook. Holobaugh lands three to follow, and Kruschewsky is fired up and retaliates with a few punches and a knee. Holobaugh blasts into his foe with a one-two, and he digs a few body shots that make Kruschewsky grimace. Holobaugh reaches at the end of a right hand, stinging the Brazilian and putting him on wobbled legs. Kruschewsky throws with everything he has in response, and Holobaugh clips him again and ties him up. Holobaugh bafflingly goes for a takedown instead of finishing the job on the feet, and Kruschewsky jumps guard once more for a guillotine choke. Holobaugh slams his foe to break up the choke. Holobaugh ends the round with some ground-and-pound.

Jay Pettry scores the round: 10-9 Holobaugh

Round 3

Fists fly when the final frame begins, and Holobaugh appears a bit lighter on his feet as he bounces in and out. Kruschewsky sits down on his punches, knocking “The Hurt” back. Kruschewsky strides forward firing with knees to the body, and Holobaugh swings back until the Brazilian decides to mix things up and take him down. Kruschewsky lands in half guard while dropping down ground-and-pound, and he postures up to deliver a nasty elbow. Kruschewsky stands all the way back up to step over and around the guard, and he lowers himself down on the side while Holobaugh turns himself upside-down. Holobaugh scrambles his way back to his feet, and he backs off when Kruschewsky lobs bombs at him. Holobaugh walks through a few jabs to plant right hand on the cheek, and Kruschewsky shoots for a double that dumps the American down to the mat again. Holobaugh rolls for an armbar, but Kruschewsky is wise to it and steps through it. Holobaugh turns the corner to get hold of a single, and he deposits Kruschewsky on his back with two minutes to spare. Holobaugh lowers himself into the half guard to catch his breath, and Kruschewsky turns to his side in a failed effort to escape. By turning, Kruschewsky only opens himself up to elbow strikes, so he lays flat on his back to stop the eye-closing bombardment. Kruschewsky flails from his back, and Holobaugh sits up and lands one single blow before needing to get his wind back. Holobaugh uses short elbows to do more damage and stay busy, and Kruschewsky bucks him back to the guard position while he is warned for striking the spine. Kruschewsky scoots the fencing, and Holobaugh takes his back and wraps up a rear-naked choke that is more of a face crank. Kruschewsky turns around, but he is stuck in a back take with Holobaugh behind him with both hooks in. Kruschewsky hammers Holobaugh awkwardly with no-look elbows until the final horn blares, and Kruschewsky swings once more and immediately apologizes for the strike after the bell. The result of this scrap now results in the hands of the judges.

Seung Woo Choi (145) vs. Steve Garcia (144.5)

BETTING PREVIEW | SCOUTING REPORT | ODDS: Garcia (-148), Choi (+124)

Round 1

Finding himself in the unexpected situation of serving as the co-main event after the cancelation of Brad Tavares vs. Jun Yong Park, “Mean Machine” Garcia (15-5, 4-2 UFC) is ready to rise the occasion and lock down his fourth win in a row. The Jackson-Wink fighter will try to hand Choi (11-6, 4-5 UFC) his fourth loss in five fights, and the two featherweights will likely meet in the middle and throw down. When they do, referee Herb Dean will be hanging on tight. There is a touch of gloves, and Garcia is the initial aggressor as he gets into the center of the cage and lands a stomp kick to the knee. Garcia ducks back to avoid two looping hooks, only to race forward and bump into Choi’s forehead to tie him up. Garcia ties up a leg but is unable to put the South Korean down, and when Choi escapes, he throws hands. Garcia welcomes the exchange, and when things settle down, he lands another kick to the knee. Choi chambers and fires a low kick that puts Garcia down to a knee, and Garcia climbs back up and gets swept with another kick. Garcia wades forward, thinks about throwing a front kick and lets it go to stand and bang. Stand and bang is exactly what “Mean Machine” does, rocking Choi and getting clipped in a destructive exchange. Garcia lands the cleaner of the blows as he continues to slug it out, and he knocks Choi off-balance with a left hand and floors him with another bomb of a left. Choi turns to his side and then knees in an effort to shell up and survive, but Garcia is a man possessed at getting the win. Garcia stings “Sting” repeatedly with hammerfists, raining down a seemingly unending onslaught of fists until Dean has no choice but to stop the fight. Choi looks up at Dean quizzically as blood streams from his mouth, and Garcia runs to the cage wall to scream and then scales it to shout even louder. This is a big moment for Garcia, who has now picked up four straight knockout victories. The triumphant Garcia calls for an MMA fight against Dan Ige, a popular name lately, while also calling out commentator Daniel Cormier for a golf match.

Steve Garcia def. Seung Woo Choi R1 1:36 via TKO (Punches)

Amanda Lemos (116) vs. Virna Jandiroba (115.5)

BETTING PREVIEW | SCOUTING REPORT | ODDS: Jandiroba (-130), Lemos (+110)

Round 1

An all-Brazil ranked strawweight contest will end the evening, with former title challenger Lemos (14-3-1, 8-3 UFC) eying one final run at gold at the expense of ex-Invicta FC queen Jandiroba (20-3, 6-3 UFC). They will have five rounds to get things done, and referee Mark Smith will follow every step of the way. Nothing more needs to be said about these ladies, who come together in the middle of the cage to sportingly bump their fists together. It’s on with the show. Jandiroba springs back and forth early, switching stances back and forth while staying out of striking range. Jandiroba tosses out a high kick that is several feet away from Lemos’ head, and Lemos just stares at her. A little after 30 seconds in, Jandiroba shoots for a double-leg takedown, and Lemos immediately jumps guard with a guillotine choke in defense. Lemos squeezes with all her might, but she has to adjust her grip and Jandiroba is able to prevent Lemos from locking her hands together. Jandiroba signals a thumbs-up and wrenches her neck free, and she lays heavily in half guard while Lemos is flat on her back. Jandiroba attempts to pass guard, and Lemos locks her down in the position with her legs. Jandiroba smothers without landing a single strike, and Lemos bucks and kicks and finds herself in a worse position for a moment. Lemos scoots her way to the fencing, with the wall at her side, and Jandiroba explodes to pass but is flipped over by “Amandinha.” Lemos rolls Jandiroba over, and Jandiroba defends with a kneebar that is tight in a hurry. Lemos nods to her corner that she is not as in danger as it looks, and she threatens back with a toe hold to force Jandiroba to sit up. Jandiroba attacks with a heel hook in response, and Lemos sits up and nails Jandiroba with a single elbow that cuts Jandiroba on the corner of the eye. Lemos stands back up, and Jandiroba follows her upright and takes her from behind. Jandiroba hops on the back like a mean-spirited backpack, hanging on and softening Lemos up with a couple light punches. Lemos uses the fence at her side to drag Jandiroba off of her, and she uses two-on-one wrist control to hold on and prevent Jandiroba from going any further. Jandiroba lands a few pitter-patter strikes on the side of the head, and the horn sounds.

Sherdog Scores

Jay Pettry scores the round: 10-9 Lemos
Scottie Smith scores the round: 10-9 Jandiroba
Tyler Treese scores the round: 10-9 Jandiroba

Round 2

The women touch fingers to get going, and Lemos lands a low kick to say hello. Jandiroba tries to do the same and misses, and Lemos kicks her back. Lemos punches her way in with a one-two, and Jandiroba shrugs her shoulders at her and winds up with a right hand. Lemos splits the guard with a clean uppercut, and Jandiroba staggers back and gathers her thoughts. Jandiroba comes up way short on another head kick, and she slides her foot forward to sneakily try to trip Lemos up. They trade long, straight punches, and Lemos lands the harder of the two. Lemos lunges forward to put two hands on the raised guard of her foe, and Jandiroba punches and shoots in for a double. Lemos backs her way to the fence to defend the submission, and she clasps hands and then loops her legs between Lemos’ to trip her to the ground. Lemos counter-trips her and they both fall to their back, with Lemos lifting her leg up to stop Jandiroba from getting control. They both work to their feet, and Jandiroba keeps Lemos’ leg between her own so that she can drag the fight back down. Jandiroba scores a few left hands from the stalemate position until she sacrifice throws Lemos, and Lemos lands on top. They fight in 50-50 position with their elbows hooked until a mad scramble leads to Jandiroba somehow taking Lemos’ back. Jandiroba gets both hooks in and secures a body lock, and she threatens in a hurry with a rear-naked choke. Lemos guards her neck by gripping Jandiroba’s left wrist with both hands, and she lets it go and smacks Jandiroba in the face. Lemos changes that grip to hold onto Jandiroba’s right hand, and Jandiroba grips hold of a face crank and squeezes hard. Lemos continues hand-fighting, and she turns to her side and looks to stop the cranking move from squishing her jaw. She succeeds in doing so, but Jandiroba reapplies the submission right on top of the jaw. Lemos defends against the submission, and a sneaky Jandiroba rolls for an armbar. Lemos rolls to her back and appears to tap out, and when it does not get registered, Lemos tries to flip herself over but is stuck in a precarious position. As her elbow hyperextends, Lemos has no choice but to call it a night, and Jandiroba is now an instant title contender at 115 pounds and among the next challengers for champion Weili Zhang. When Smith tells Jandiroba to stop, she does, and she stands up and stoically raises her arms in the air before her corner rushes to her and lifts her on their shoulders. The triumphant Jandiroba dons her nifty hat, and she is all smiles as she coolly asks in English for a shot at the strawweight throne while dancing and singing a little ditty about the champ being here. If that fight happens, we will be here for it. We hope you are too.
