UFC 196 Medical Suspensions: Nate Diaz Out for 45 Days; Conor McGregor Uninjured

Sherdog.com StaffMar 07, 2016

Conor McGregor was not issued a medical suspension by the Nevada Athletic Commission following his submission loss at last weekend’s UFC 196.

Sherdog.com on Monday obtained the list of NAC suspensions from the March 5 event at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

McGregor, who tapped out to a second-round rear-naked choke from Nate Diaz, will not be required by the commission to stay out of competition or training for any length of time. The lack of a layoff should come as welcome news to both McGregor and the Ultimate Fighting Championship, as the popular Irishman looks to be a key figure in the organization’s upcoming UFC 200 mega-card.

Diaz, meanwhile, sustained a laceration over his right eye and will be out of action until April 20, with no contact in training until April 5.

Both fighters from the show’s bantamweight championship co-main event, Miesha Tate and Holly Holm, escaped without injury or suspension.

Five undercard fighters were not so lucky and could be sidelined for up to six months due to injuries suffered in their bouts. Light heavyweight Ilir Latifi (toe) will require medical clearance if he is to return to the cage before September, as will welterweight opponents Siyar Bahadurzada (jaw) and Brandon Thatch (left foot). Prelim fighters Nordine Taleb and Marcelo Guimaraes will need X-rays or MRIs after both sustained left knee injuries in their respective bouts.
