Trevin Giles Fighting Out Contract at UFC Newark

Ultimate Fighting Championship middleweight Trevin Giles is banking on a big win to give him a leg up on future contract negotiations.

When Giles (11-1) makes the walk to the Octagon at UFC on ESPN 5 this Saturday, it will be his fourth UFC appearance and the last on his current deal. Although many fighters re-sign before their final fight of their contracts, "The Problem" is an exception. He is betting on himself to get the win and have more negotiation power.

"This is my last one then we are re-negotiating," he revealed to Sherdog.com.

If he wins here, he goes 3-1, while knowing that looks impressive heading into contract negotiation time. To him, this fight is crucial.

"It is important. Everyone is trying to get what they are worth so it is huge," Giles explained. "If I want to push for bigger names in what I get paid it is important to win and enter negotiations on a win."

Although he is fighting his last fight, he says he isn't thinking about it. Instead, he is just focusing on the fight, and believes he has the necessary skills to give Gerald Meerschaert (28-11) his third loss in a row.

"He has fought some tough guys, it just shows he is going to come and be ready to go. I don't expect him to be hesitant, he will be a gamer. He's a tough guy, man," he concluded. "But, he hasn't fought me yet. I plan on going in there and showing why I belong at the top. So, I see me getting a finish in the third. Why I say the third is because he is tough, he can take some shots. From what I have seen he is going to be tough."
