Only 30 days since his UFC Ottawa war with Al Iaquinta, Ultimate Fighting Championship lightweight Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone is already locked in to face another top contender in one of the promotion's most stacked divisions.
Ferguson, who last fought and defeated Anthony Pettis on Oct. 11, is ranked number two in the 155-pound weight class and hasn't lost in 11 fights. But Ferguson has also endured some personal issues that have kept him from returning to the cage any sooner than June 8.
With two of the most action-oriented fighters in mixed martial arts finally paired against each other, oddsmakers have taken to setting their betting lines. BetOnline lists "El Cucuy" as the -190 favorite. Cerrone, who is riding a three-fight win streak of his own, is currently a +165 underdog.
UFC 238 will be headlined by two championship fights with flyweight belt-holder Henry Cejudo challenging up ten pounds for the vacant bantamweight title against Marlon Moraes. Valentina Shevchenko is set to make her first title defense against Jessica Eye. Odds for Cejudo (+110) versus Moraes (-130) are not too different from Cerrone and Ferguson, with both sets of fighters being highly skilled and of similar fighting styles. With Shevchenko however, oddsmakers see matters quite one-sidedly. The flyweight champ is identified as a -1000 favorite against Eye's +675.
