Rapper Snoop Dogg to Provide Alternate Commentary for Dana White’s Contender Series

Fans tuning in to watch Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series will have an interesting option when it comes to listening to fight commentary.

According to a release, rapper Snoop Dogg and Hall of Famer Urijah Faber will provide a secondary audio option entitled “Snoopcast” for the series, which debuts July 11 on UFC Fight Pass. A more traditional commentary team, which has yet to be announced, will also be available.

“Viewers will have the opportunity to see Snoop and Faber via picture in picture technology throughout the fights, giving fans a chance to get even closer to the action. This groundbreaking feature will serve as a compliment to a traditional play by play team broadcasting through the main feed of Fight Pass,” the release states.

UFC senior vice president of international content Joe Carr compared the option to other sports that offer alternate broadcasts of an event.

“You're starting to see it across sports," Carr told ESPN.com. "If you watched March Madness coverage, once you get toward the Final Four, there are unique feeds, whether it's a Duke channel or a Kentucky channel. I think people are starting to cater to different fan segments.

"It's also an opportunity to broaden our appeal, broaden our fan base. Snoop is an entertainment icon. He might bring a totally different demographic in for us."

DWTNCS will feature weekly fights designed to provide opportunities for both up-and-coming talent as well as veterans hoping to rejuvenate their careers. The first iteration features five bouts and includes former UFC competitors such as Joby Sanchez, Kurt Holobaugh and Justin Jones.

"I'm a big fan of UFC and [am] looking forward to joining the team to bring my unique take on all the action," Snoop Dogg said. "Y'all in for a brand-new experience with Dogg on the mic."

Added Faber: “I can’t wait to call fights with the Cali legend Snoop Dogg. Snoop is on another level. Hope he brings the gin because I’ll bring the juice, laid back.”
