Michael Bisping Would Favor Francis Ngannou To Defeat Jon Jones At Heavyweight

Jon Jones hasn’t been shy of late regarding a potential move up to heavyweight to fight the likes of Francis Ngannou and Cain Velasquez with “The Predator” stating that he’d be open to take on the light heavyweight champion.

Besides his debut fight at a 210-pound catchweight, “Bones” has fought his entire 27-fight career at light heavyweight and is arguably the most dominant fighter of all time in any division. At 31 years of age, Jones is close to exhausting the light heavyweight division of credible contenders, and has teased a move up to heavyweight to challenge himself against bigger and more powerful opponents. It could be argued that there is no better time for the move considering he is entering his athletic prime in the sport and a super fight against someone like Ngannou would be one of the most hyped fights in UFC history.

Former UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping weighed in on Jones potentially going up a weight-class on his “Believe You Me” podcast and predicted that Ngannou’s power would be too much for Jones.

“I can’t help but think that Francis Ngannou pretty much knocks out everybody right now,” Bisping said. “Of course I think [Daniel Cormier] would be the worst matchup. ‘DC’ would be the worst matchup because of the wrestling. And of course Stipe [Miocic] beat [Ngannou] as well, so we can’t do a disservice to Stipe, but I’ve got a feeling Ngannou would beat Jones. I just do. I know Jones is a good wrestler, he’s got a real nice, fast double leg entry. But I don’t know, I reckon Jones vs. Ngannou, Ngannou takes it.”

Bisping maintains that regardless of opponent, if Ngannou lands a clean punch it’s lights out.

“I’m telling you, [if] Ngannou connects with Jon Jones flush, Jones is going to sleep,” Bisping said. “That’s a fact. I’m sorry, I’m not being a hater on Jones for saying that. I’m being pro-Ngannou.”

Ngannou’s outrageous power was on show again last weekend when he finished Junior dos Santos in the first-round via TKO at UFC Minneapolis.
