Luis Santos to Fight Igor Svirid in One Championship Main Event on Aug. 27

One Championship, the largest mixed martial arts promotion in all of Asia, announced on Tuesday that former middleweight champion Igor Svirid will take on Luis Santos in the main event of One: Titles & Titans. The event will take place on Aug. 27 at the Jakarta Convention Center in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Svirid, a tough-as-nails Kazakhstani, will be dropping from 185 pounds down to welterweight for his next bout, which should be an intriguing one. “Lionheart” captured the One title by torching Leandro Ataides in just 17 seconds but he relinquished his belt to current champ Vitaly Bigdash last year.

Brazil’s Santos already has over 60 professional wins under his belt and the former Bellator fighter is looking to eventually add the One title to his ledger. “Sapo” had won seven straight before clashing with Ben Askren, but an accidental eye poke ended the fight prematurely. Santos wants nothing more than to get his bands on Askren again but he’ll need to get past Svirid first.

“These are exciting times for Asian MMA,” stated One CEO Victor Cui. “As One Championship continues to push the envelope in sports entertainment across the region, delivering to fans world-class mixed martial arts action, Jakarta is once again set for another explosive evening of fights. In a truly international fight experience, Brazil takes on Kazakhstan as Luis Santos faces the toughest test of his career against the heavy-handed Igor Svirid.”

Also announced for the bill will be a light heavyweight showdown between Marcin Prachnio and Jake Butler; Vincent Latoel will take on Edward Kelly in a lightweight scrum; Anthony Engelen will oppose fellow featherweight Sami Amin; and Sunoto and Yohan Mulia Legowo will collide, also at 154 pounds.

More bouts are expected to be announced shortly.
