Kevin Jousset Targets Daniel Rodriguez After UFC Fight Night 233 Win

Kevin Jousset wants to blitz his way into the welterweight rankings after his win over Kenan Song at UFC Fight Night 233 on Saturday.

The Kiwi earned an emphatic decision win over Song in his sophomore outing after a first-round submission victory over Keifer Crosbie in his debut at UFC 293 in September. Jousset subsequently aimed high by calling out welterweight veteran Daniel Rodriguez, who will complete a USADA suspension early next year.

“I saw ‘D-Rod’ got cleared from USADA. I like his style. I feel he’s a very good fighter. He seems to be a good guy, as well,” Joussett said in a post-fight media scrum. “I don’t know the guy personally, but I would love to test my skills against this guy potentially. I know he’s much higher than me in the rankings, but who knows. If the UFC is interested in this fight, let’s do it.”

Jousset also acknowledged the need of certain improvements in order to step up his game.

“I thought I would be able to capitalize a bit more,” he added. “I was not very happy with some technical stuff that I did, but it is what it is. A win is a win, and that’s the main thing.”

Having already fought twice within a span of three months, the City Kickboxing representative wants to make a relatively quick turnaround.

“I’ll see with my coaches what they think, but I want to fight again soon,” Joussett said. “I’m going home for Christmas, so I’m looking forward to that because I haven’t spent Christmas at home in many years. I look forward to seeing my family and my friends. Take a couple weeks off, then we’ll see. Hopefully, fight again in March.”

Jousset is undefeated in his last five outings — all of which have come within the span of a year. Meanwhile, Rodriguez will be eligible to compete in January following six months of suspension after testing positive for ostarine. “D-Rod” is coming off consecutive stoppage losses against Neil Magny and Ian Garry.
