Ultimate Fighting Championship flyweight Joanne Calderwood returns to the Octagon on June 8 for UFC 238 to face off against Katlyn Chookagian. The 33-year-old in her typically mild-mannered way, tells The Score's James Lynch that she is prepared to peel back the layers of her opponent's game and secure a victory.
Headlining the Chicago, Illinois, card is a bantamweight championship bout between flyweight titleholder Henry Cejudo, and Marlon Moraes. However, the co-main spot features another title match that holds significance for the future of Calderwood (13-3). Women's flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko is set to make her first title defense against the 14-6 Jessica Eye.
Asked if Calderwood has considered the possibility she might be on the short-list to step in should something happen to Eye, the Scottish fighter confirms that she has. "Yeah, I feel like I'm on that card because just in case anyone does fall off the card, or if anyone doesn't make weight, so, yeah, I'm seeing it as if that opportunity comes up then definitely going to jump in with my two feet, for sure." Despite this, Calderwood's main focus is Chookagian.
Calderwood's bout is one of three fights scheduled for the early prelims portion of UFC 238 and will stream live on UFC Fight Pass.
