It appears that Norma Dumont vs. Felicia Spencer in May was not in fact the final Ultimate Fighting Championship women’s featherweight match.

MMA Fighting was first to report on Wednesday that Holly Holm (14-5) would be making her comeback in the featherweight division against Dumont (6-1) on Oct. 16. The UFC Fight Night event on that date will likely go down inside the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, and it is unclear but unlikely this matchup will serve as its headliner. Holm subsequently confirmed the news on her Instagram on Thursday.

Holm, who will turn 40 the day after this expected matchup, has proved that she is not done competing at the highest level yet. The former bantamweight queen is currently riding a two-fight win streak with decisions over Raquel Pennington and Irene Aldana, both of which came in 2020. This winning streak is her longest since she started her career at a sterling 10-0 having knocked out Ronda Rousey to earn the belt. Although she posts a career knockout rate of over 50 percent, “The Preacher’s Daughter” has notched just one in the last five years, when she flattened Bethe Correia with a head kick in 2017.

Dumont, who tried and failed to make the 135-pound division at the end of 2020, is coming off of the biggest win of her career. In May, Dumont topped former title challenger and ex-Invicta Fighting Championships titleholder Felicia Spencer by split decision. Unlike her opponent, Dumont has yet to score a knockout since turning pro in 2016.

The UFC Fight Night event on Oct. 16 does not currently have a title or headliner, but it will take place inside the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Other noteworthy matches slated for the event include a heavyweight battle between Andrei Arlovski and Carlos Felipe, while Ludovit Klein and Nate Landwehr will square off at featherweight.
