TOKYO — Josh "The Punk" Thomson (USA/American Kickboxing Academy)
will fight Daisuke "Amazon" Sugie (Japan/Alive) Dream Stage
Entertainment announced Thursday, completing Sunday’s PRIDE Bushido
8 card that takes place at Nagoya Rainbow Hall.
Thomson, a UFC veteran making his Japanese debut, fights for the first time since his knockout loss to Yves Edwards 11 months ago in UFC 49. A Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt and SHOOTO veteran with extended experience in Japan’s grappling and jiu-jitsu circles, Sugie enters Sunday’s fight fresh off a triangle choke victory over Kultar Hill on July 3 in SHOOTO. Both fighters are making their debut in PRIDE’s ring, but Sugie will be favored by the crowd since he’s fighting in his hometown of Nagoya.
