Ricardo Mayorga Stopped in Second Round by Debuting Fighter

Ricardo “El Matador” Mayorga was stopped in the second round this weekend by debuting Guatemalan fighter Lester Martinez. Now fighting at light heavyweight, the 45-year-old Mayorga has lost his last three fights in a row and has been stopped in four of his last five bouts.

Although this was his first professional fight, Martinez has a solid amateur background including a silver medal at the 2012 AIBA Youth games. Still, Mayorga has no business fighting any level of opponent at this point, especially considering how unseriously he took training in the past. Mayorga is an old 45, which is ancient in boxing, and needs to stop competing before the fun wildman that smoked cigarettes and drank beers at weigh-ins against the elite fighters of his generation, becomes another tragic story about fighting too long. Unfortunately, after the fight Mayorga said that he would hang up his gloves two fights from now, which is two fights too many, on top of the probably 10 fights too many he has already fought.

Angelo Leo Easily Beats Neil Tabanao by Unanimous Decision

With the stars shining bright on the main event of a ShoBox card, Angelo Leo cruised to a unanimous 100-90,100-90, 99-91 decision over Neil Tabano. There isn’t much to say about the fight, Leo was far better than Tabano and Tabano almost immediately shelled up looking to survive rather than win. Leo’s inability to close the show is the only knock you could say about the now 17-0 24-year-old fighting out of Floyd Mayweather’s gym in Las Vegas.

Xavier Martinez Stops John Moralde in Three Rounds

Xavier Martinez, on the other hand was able to dominate his opponent and get the stoppage. Martinez dropped John Moralde with a left hook, then poured on the punches until the referee stopped the fight. With the win, Martinez moved to 14-0 with 10 knockouts, with this being his sixth knockout in a row.

Davey Oliver Joyce Stops Stephen Tiffney in Seven

Facing his first real capable opponent, as well as fighting at 126 pounds for the first time ever, Davey Oliver Joyce used solid body work to break down and ultimately stop Stephen Tiffney in the seventh round of their fight in Dubai. Joyce, a former Irish Olympian, was dropped in the sixth round, but the referee ruled it a push, and it did little damage to Joyce. With the win, Joyce became the WBO European Champion with the win, and got to meet a robust Prince Naseem Hamed after his victory.

Lasisi Rallies from Headbutt and Knockdown to Beat Blandon by Decision in Dubai

Fighting in his adopted home, Aliu Bamidele Lasisi needed to rally late to save himself from a defeat at the hands of Ricardo Blandon. Lasisi was given no hometown favors by the referee, as he was first ruled the victim of a controversial third round knockdown, then docked a point in the fourth round for a headbutt. After coming storming back, Lasisi would go on to win a unanimous 114-111, 114-111, 114-111 decision. With the win, the Nigerian-born Lasisi moved to 13-0 with eight knockouts.

Robert Talarek Hands Patryk Szymanski First Loss in Fight Featuring 10 Knockdowns

In a fight that many are saying could become fight of the year despite neither fighter being especially noteworthy, Polish middleweight Robert Talarek stopped fellow Pole Patryk Szymanski in a fight that feature 10 total knockdowns despite lasting only five rounds.
