(SPONSORED CONTENT) -- The women’s strawweight fight on the main card is essentially a filler, but it could be a platform for either fighter to make a jump up the standings. Pearl Gonzalez is a 30 year-old newcomer with some serious wrestling ability, but her opponent is the one with a much higher upside. That’s why Calvillo has the second most lopsided UFC 210 odds on the board.
Her debut against Amanda Cooper was impressive as she synched a rear-naked choke in round one for the victory. Calvillo was able to dominate Cooper on the ground, patiently and patently working her in to position as she aimed for the choke. When the fight went to ground, you just knew that Cooper was outclassed.
This should not diminish Calvillo’s knockout power, which earned her two victories outside of the UFC. Of course, this isn’t to suggest that Calvillo is a world beater yet. But anytime a fighter is put on a main card of a big event, it usually indicates that talent is being tested.
Women’s Strawweight – Cynthia Calvillo over Pearl Gonzalez
Saturday, April 8, 2017 --- KeyBank Arena, BuffaloUFC 210 Odds: Calvillo -220 / Gonzalez +185
Pearl Gonzalez represents a stiff challenge for Calvillo despite what the UFC 210 odds suggest. At 6-1 through an equally brief career, Gonzalez is a grappling specialist. She owns five wins via submission but is not really projected out as a viable contender in the division.
That could change should Gonzalez submit a lifetime performance both figuratively and literally. But the obvious take here is on Calvillo, a fighter who seems polished and poised to make some significant strides through 2017. She won’t be knocking on any championship doors in the immediate future, but if she continues to show improvement, her UFC 210 odds are well worth a heavy handed wager to bolster your wallet.
