The Walkmen: UFC 182 Walkout Songs

One of the most anticipated title fights in Ultimate Fighting Championship history lived up to the hype, but there would be no upset inside the MGM Grand Garden Arena on Saturday in Las Vegas. Light heavyweight champion Jon Jones solidified his status as the world’s best pound-for-pound fighter in the UFC 182 main event with a grueling but well-deserved unanimous decision over hated rival Daniel Cormier.

Jones confidently entered the famed Octagon and, like his main walkout song from Jadakiss and Nate Dogg noted, declared the champ was indeed here. When it was over, the gold remained with Jones, who took four of the five rounds from the previously unbeaten Cormier.

Before “Bones” defended his title and continued his career without a legitimate loss on his ledger, the co-feature was a bit more one-sided than most expected. Donald Cerrone dominated Myles Jury in their lightweight encounter to remain in the running for a potential title shot at 155 pounds. Cerrone walked to combat to the popular Kid Rock anthem “Cowboy” before he beat up Jury for three rounds.

Meanwhile, Philadelphia native Paul Felder strolled to the cage to the overplayed “I’m Shipping Up to Boston” before he scored an early “Knockout of the Year” contender, as his spinning backfist separated Team Alpha Male’s Danny Castillo from his senses in the second round. Castillo, who was ushered to the Octagon by rap monarch Jay-Z’s “Lost One,” lost the bout and perhaps some short-term memory.

Finally, UFC newcomer Jared Cannonier came face-to-face with the difficulties of succeeding in major-league MMA. His walkout track, “It’s a Long Way to the Top,” from Aussie rock legends AC/DC, proved symbolic, as the MMA Lab representative was stopped by Shawn Jordan in the opening round of their heavyweight scrap. Jordan floored the Alaskan with a right hand and then finished him with a series of punches on the ground. Johnny Cash’s “Hurt” provided the perfect backdrop for Jordan’s entrance and subsequent performance. The former Louisiana State University fullback has posted back-to-back wins, both of them strike-induced, hurt-filled finishes.
