The FF-Files: Video Edition

You may have noticed that something is wrong with our beloved Fight Finder.

For the past few weeks, records haven’t been updating properly in the database. New results are still being added daily, and while the outcomes are visible on event pages and the “Fight History” section of fighters’ profiles, the win-loss fields are frozen, refusing to tally any new fights. (Daniel Cormier, for example, is still undefeated in our books.) It’s a disheartening situation for our squad of detail-oriented FF gnomes, and presumably just as frustrating for fighters like Vitalius Shemetov, who racked up three wins in a one-night tournament on Dec. 31, but whose record still displays as sub-.500.

I’m sorry to say that I come bearing no solution to the problem. In this situation, I’m the customer service rep from the electric company who you get on the phone when the power goes out: I’ve got no idea how to fix it, and I wouldn’t even know where to start, but I can assure you that someone is working to resolve the matter.

So, while we wait for the man behind the curtain to get everything sorted, I’m taking a page out of my high school teachers’ playbook, dimming the lights and putting on some videos.

It’s been two months since the last “FF-Files,” and although the ever-flowing stream of big stage MMA tends to slow to a trickle around year’s end, there’s always plenty of overlooked regional violence to enjoy. In my experience, one of the best and simplest ways to discover new and exciting fights is to hit the events page, click the “Recent Fights” tab and just start scrolling. That’s what I did today, digging through the last month’s worth of shows and searching for video of anything that caught my eye. Here’s the best -- and, in a few cases, most unusual -- of what I found.
