The Expert Edge: UFC 226

Jul 05, 2018

(SPONSORED CONTENT) -- UFC 226 will soon be unleashed upon Las Vegas, bringing with it a hurricane of hype, speculation and buzz. The night will see some of the biggest and meanest names in the game going head to head. You’d be hard pressed to pick which of the bouts has the biggest consequences with so much on the line for all involved.

Ahead of the big night, our man in the know, Richie Vas, has crunched the numbers to take some of the guesswork out of who will be walking away with what.

Stipe Miocic vs Daniel "DC" Cormier

The main event for 226 pits Stipe Miocic against Daniel DC Cormier. DC might be the former Strikeforce Heavyweight Champ, but Miocic has some feathers in his cap also, having successfully defended more titles in the UFC than any fighter before him. Miocic’s 6 fight win streak and DC’s 20-1 record make this an incredibly high stakes fight, fuelled even more by the fact that if DC wins, he’ll go down in UFC history as the second person ever to hold two titles in two separate weight divisions at the same time.

Michael "Maverick" Chiesa vs Anthony "Showtime" Pettis

Michael "Maverick" Chiesa will be opening the night against Anthony "Showtime" Pettis. Maverick is known throughout the land for his range. He’s a big bloke and a tough-as-nails lightweight, walking in confident with 8 wins by rear naked choke. Showtime, on the other hand, comes in off the back of winning just 2 of his last 7 fights. The former lightweight champ might be down on his luck, but that’s nothing a swift Showtime Kick to the head can’t fix.

Francis "The Predator" Ngannou vs Derrick "The Black Beast" Lewis

Up next, Francis “The Predator” Ngannou takes on Derrick “The Black Beast” Lewis in a true battle of raw nature. Both ranked within the top 5 and both walking tall off the back of KO/TKO wins. The Predator has won 10 out of his last 11 fights, The Black Beast 17 out of the last 19.These two stand relatively on par – there’s very little standing between them - and this will be a great example of when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object.

Max "Blessed" Holloway vs Brian "T-City" Ortega

Max “Blessed” Holloway returns for 226 totally unbeaten since his fight with Conor McGregor, claiming the scalps of his last 12 opponents. We’re thinking this doesn’t rock Brian T-City Ortega, who fronts up to Holloway totally undefeated. T-City has a taste for upsetting crowds after claiming the throne from Frankie Edgar in a savage KO, cutting him shot of his title shot.
