Matt Brown has covered his bases in the Ultimate Fighting Championship, from fringe prospect and unlikely contender to dependable gatekeeper and shopworn journeyman.

In what could be his final appearance in the cage, Brown will face “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 1 winner Diego Sanchez in the UFC Fight Night 120 co-main event on Saturday at the Ted Constant Convocation Center in Norfolk, Virginia. He enters the Octagon on a career-worst three-fight losing streak, having been finished in consecutive appearances against Demian Maia, Jake Ellenberger and Donald Cerrone. A staple of the welterweight division since June 2008, Brown last competed at UFC 206 on Dec. 10, when he was cut down by a third-round head kick from Cerrone. Wins over Stephen Thompson, Tim Means, Erick Silva and Mike Pyle highlight a resume that now covers 36 professional bouts.

As Brown approaches his showdown with Sanchez, here are some of the numbers that have come to define one of the UFC’s most ferocious competitors:

5: Post-fight bonuses won under UFC employ. Brown has earned three “Fight of the Night” bonuses, one “Knockout of the Night” bonus and one “Performance of the Night” bonus worth a total of $250,000.

6: Career wins by submission. Brown’s weapons of choice: three armbars, a neck crank, a triangle choke and a guillotine choke.

8: First-round finishes to his credit. Among those are wins in 29, 39, 51, 92 and 97 seconds.

10: Professional losses by submission. Brown has been victimized by Maia, Seth Baczynksi, Brian Foster, Chris Lytle (twice), Ricardo Almeida, Daniel Moraes, Jesse Chilton, Chris Liguori and Mikey Gomez.

18: Victories by knockout, technical knockout or submission. They account for 90 percent of his career win total.

24: Submissions attempted in Ultimate Fighting Championship competition, per FightMetric. Only four men in UFC history have attempted more: Jim Miller (39), Lytle (31), Joe Lauzon (29) and Nate Diaz (25).

36: Years old. Brown was born in Xenia, Ohio, on Jan. 10, 1981.

54: Percent of significant strikes landed in the UFC. That figure ranks first all-time among UFC welterweights, ahead of Georges St. Pierre (53.3), Nordine Taleb (53.0), Alan Jouban (52.7) and Matt Hughes (52.0).

811: Significant strikes landed inside the Octagon -- good for fourth among active UFC welterweights. The Elevation Fight Team rep trails only St. Pierre (1,254), Robbie Lawler (895) and Thiago Alves (827) in the category.

1,199: Total strikes landed, which ranks sixth among active UFC welterweights. Only St. Pierre (2,523), Nick Diaz (1,536), Neil Magny (1,382), Carlos Condit (1,350) and Johny Hendricks (1,249) have landed more.
