It was a wild and crazy night for the Ultimate Fighting Championship on Saturday, as it went up against a marquee boxing match as well as a Hawaiian Bellator MMA offering in the same stretch of time. As luck would have it, the promotion stuck the landing with this maligned fight card, with seven of the last eight bouts of the evening ending inside the distance. UFC Fight Night 205 featured a unique variant of a common submission, a knee-seeking Peruvian missile and an odd distinction from an eye gouge.

My Division: Eliciting the tap from Amanda Lemos at 3:13 of the opening frame, Jessica Andrade secured the first standing arm-triangle choke in company history. While Matt Riddle did lock one up on Chris Clements in 2012, the fight hit the ground before Clements surrendered – and the bout was later overturned to a no contest after Riddle failed a post-fight drug test.

Pile Driver Keeps Driving: The win for Andrade was her 14th on the roster, tying “Bate Estaca” with Amanda Nunes for the most in UFC women’s divisional history.

Chasing Nunes: Across her 14 UFC victories, Andrade has beaten her opponent inside the distance eight times. This firmly entrenches her with the second-most across all women to ever step foot in the Octagon, and behind only Nunes (10).

A Rubber Match Down the Line Wouldn’t Hurt: As a strawweight, Andrade has tied the top spot for the most stoppages at 115 pounds alongside foe Rose Namajunas. They have each earned five finishes in that specific weight class.

Big Money Fights Loom: Snagging a post-fight bonus for her quick work of Lemos, Andrade increased her overall UFC bonus number to eight. This further puts distance between her and the second-highest number of six across all women’s divisions, held by Namajunas and Ronda Rousey.

Everyone’s Got a Gimmick Now: In just over three minutes, Claudio Puelles hit a kneebar on Clay Guida. “Prince of Peru” extends his record for the most in organizational history, while no other fighter has landed more than one.

He’d Fight 33 More Times If They Let Him: Even though he lost, Guida stepped in the UFC cage for the 33rd time, tying Demian Maia for the fifth-most appearances in promotional history. Jim Miller holds the top spot with 39.

Could This Be It? Of those 33 fights, Guida has lost 16 of those, giving him sole possession of the second-most defeats in UFC history. Former UFC fighter Jeremy Stephens succumbed to the most losses, with 18 on his ledger during his time on the roster from 2007 to 2021.

O Canada: Just after the midpoint of the first round, Charles Jourdain pulled off a guillotine choke on Lando Vannata. The Canadian’s finish rate lifted to 92% following his submission win.

Our Home and Native Land: Like his countryman above, Canada’s Marc-Andre Barriault secured a guillotine choke to get the win, tapping out Jordan Wright four seconds later than Jourdain made Vannata surrender. Unlike “Air” Jourdain, Barriault had never before snagged a submission as a pro.

Not the Wright Stuff: Wright has still yet to go the distance as a professional, following his first-round submission setback to Barriault. “The Beverly Hills Ninja” has only reached the second round twice as a pro, with no match lasting longer than 5:48.

Forgot to Drink Out of a Shoe: Tyson Pedro clobbered Isaac Villanueva with leg kicks and follow-up uppercuts to knock the Houston native out cold. As a pro, the Aussie has recorded every one of his eight victories by stoppage, with all eight coming in the first round.

Could Have Walked Away After the Kick: Across the numerous finishes due to leg kicks throughout company history, Pedro is the first to ever record a clean knockout after hurting his foe with leg kicks. Every prior leg kick stoppage in the Octagon resulted in a technical knockout.

Counting Them Hurts: Villanueva has now succumbed to 13 stoppage losses throughout his career that began in 2008. In comparison, six fighters on the card had not even competed 13 times coming into this event.

Preston the Elder: Before facing Evan Elder, every one of Preston Parsons’ fights had ended by stoppage, win or lose. Taking Elder to the scorecards and claiming a unanimous verdict, Parsons reached the third round for the first time as he went on to record his first decision victory.

Monstro Win for His Career: Snagging a unanimous decision triumph over Marcin Prachnio, Philipe Lins earned his first win on the UFC roster. “Monstro” found his overall finish rate fall to 80% with the win on the scorecards, and it marked the first time in nine victories that Lins has needed the full time in a fight to get a win.

Good Call, Chris Tognoni: After absorbing two groin strikes and an eye gouge, Mike Jackson was awarded the win by disqualification over Dean Barry. The DQ is the first since Randa Markos illegally upkicked Luana Pinheiro at UFC on ESPN 23 in 2021.

Two-Knuckler: Throughout UFC history, 20 different fights have ended due to disqualification following Barry’s eye gouge of Jackson. Barry’s gouge is the first to ever end a fight by DQ, and not as a no contest, with the foul ruled intentional.

A Win’s a Win’s a Win: Closing in as a +550 underdog against Barry, Jackson notched the biggest upset of 2022 in the Octagon so far. The last male UFC fighter to spring an upset this substantial or greater was the +650 Khama Worthy, when he decked -1000 favorite Devonte Smith in August 2019.

Some Books Lump DQ in With TKO and KO: Overall, the last major betting upset to surpass Jackson’s was +700 Julianna Pena’s victory over Amanda Nunes (-1100) in December 2021.

Never Say Never Again: Coming into UFC Fight Night 205, Lemos (13 fights) and Wright (15 fights) had never been submitted, Dwight Grant (15 fights) and Cameron Else (15 fights) had never suffered consecutive defeats and Elder had never been defeated (seven fights).

Fear of the Bar: Puelles rocked out to “Fear of the Dark” by Iron Maiden while walking to the cage ahead of his match with Guida. For the third time in a row, the Peruvian has picked this song, and he has won all three times, which includes two wins by kneebar.

You Bleed Like Mylee: While fight fans have been treated to walkouts using the “Kickboxer” soundtrack with tunes like “Streets of Siam” over the years, Barry became the first fighter to select “The Eagle Lands” by Paul Hertzog from the film. Barry went on to channel his inner Tong Po and get disqualified.
