Derek Brunson is the man who ends the hype.

For the second fight in a row, Brunson derailed one of the middleweight division’s top young talents, as he outwrestled and controlled Kevin Holland for the better part of five rounds to earn a unanimous decision in the UFC on ESPN 21 headliner on Saturday night at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Brunson, who halted the momentum of Edmen Shahbazyan one bout prior, thwarted the outspoken Holland at every turn to end his opponent’s five-bout winning streak.

Here is a by-the-numbers look at UFC on ESPN 21, with statistics courtesy of UFCStats.com.

13: UFC middleweight victories for Brunson, tying him with Thales Leites, Nate Marquardt, Yushin Okami and Brad Tavares for third most in the history of the division behind only Michael Bisping (16) and Anderson Silva (14).

4: Consecutive wins for Brunson, tying him with Marvin Vettori for the second-longest active winning streak at 185 pounds behind reigning champion Israel Adesanya (nine).

1: Takedown allowed by Brunson in UFC competition in 18 promotional appearances. No one was able to ground the North Carolina native until Holland landed a takedown in the fifth round. However, it wasn’t enough for him to earn the nod from the judges. Brunson had defended all 15 attempts prior to Saturday night.

6: Takedowns landed in 12 attempts by Brunson, a UFC career high. He had previously landed four takedowns on three different occasions in the Octagon.

24: Takedowns surrendered by Holland in 11 UFC appearances. “Trailblazer” has landed 10 takedowns of his own during that same period.

16:55: Total control time for Brunson, who spent much of the bout in top position. By comparison, Holland logged just 1:47 of control time.

226: Total strikes landed by Brunson. Holland, meanwhile, landed 190. Brunson also held a 43-to-36 advantage in significant strikes landed.

0: Knockdowns landed by Kenan Song opponents in five previous UFC fights that spanned more than 42 minutes of fight time. On Saturday, Max Griffin ended that streak with a knockdown and finish 2:20 into the opening frame of their middleweight co-main event. Griffin now has five knockdowns in his 11-bout UFC tenure.

136: Total strikes landed by Montserrat Ruiz in a unanimous decision triumph over Cheyanne Buys at strawweight. By comparison, Buys landed just 49 total strikes. Ruiz was successful on four of five takedowns in victory as well.

9:53: Total control time for Ruiz, who trapped Buys with in the scarf-hold position for much of the bout. The Invicta veteran also was credited with two official submission attempts.

4: Knockdowns landed in three appearances at the UFC Apex for Adrian Yanez, who floored Gustavo Lopez twice en route to a TKO triumph 27 seconds into Round 3 of their bantamweight matchup.

5: Career victories in less than a minute for Tai Tuivasa, who dispatched short-notice foe Harry Hunsucker 49 seconds into the opening round of their featured heavyweight bout. “Bam Bam” has four UFC knockout triumphs inside of a round, but Saturday was his first inside of a minute.

21: Significant strikes by which Macy Chiasson outlanded Marion Reneau in their bantamweight encounter. Chiasson also outlanded her foe by 33 total strikes for her fifth victory in six UFC outings.

4:59: Time of Grant Dawson’s third-round knockout of Leonardo Santos in their preliminary lightweight encounter. That ties him with Leon Edwards and Paul Craig for the second-latest finish of a three-round fight in UFC history. Ricky Simon still holds the record for the latest finish, with his submission of Merab Dvalishvili at the 5:00 mark of Round 3 at UFC Fight Night 128.

12: Takedowns defended in 13 attempts by Santos. Dawson landed his lone takedown of the fight in Round 3, when he held a 34-to-6 advantage in total strikes landed and logged 4:10 of control time.

4,340: Days since Santos’ last defeat, a split-decision setback to Kazunori Yokota at Sengoku “Eighth Battle” on May 2, 2009. The Brazilian had gone 7-0-1 in UFC competition since his promotional debut in 2013.

2: Knockdowns scored by Montel Jackson in 1:58 of Octagon time against Jesse Strader. Jackson only outlanded his foe by a 15-to-14 count in significant strikes prior to his technical knockout victory in the bantamweight bout.

3: Knockdowns landed by Bruno Silva en route to a technical knockout victory over J.B. Buys 2:56 into the second round of their preliminary clash. That ties Silva with Matheus Nicolau and John Lineker (twice) for the most knockdowns in a single UFC flyweight fight.
