By the Numbers: UFC Fight Night 240

Brendan Allen got one back against Chris Curtis.

“All In” avenged a 2021 defeat to Curtis, taking a split-decision over “Action Man” in the UFC Fight Night 240 main event at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas on Saturday night. While their first meeting ended via second-round TKO, the rematch was more of a back-and-forth affair. Ultimately, it was Allen’s ability to blend striking and grappling that made the difference, though his streak of consecutive submission victories ended at four.

Here is a by-the-numbers look at UFC Fight Night 240, with statistics courtesy of UFCStats.com.

6: Consecutive middleweight victories for Allen, the second-longest active winning streak in the division behind Dricus Du Plessis (seven). Allen has won seven straight fights in Ultimate Fighting Championship competition overall, but his first triumph occurred at 205 pounds.

124: Significant strikes landed by Curtis, the second most of his nine-bout UFC tenure. By comparison, Allen landed 112. Curtis outlanded his foe 46 to 29 in Round 2 and 21 to 13 in Round 5. Allen, meanwhile, outlanded Curtis 22 to 13 in Round 1 and 25 to 21 in Round 4. Both fighters landed 23 significant strikes in Round 3.

96: Significant head strikes for Curtis. Allen, meanwhile, landed 72. Allen held a 15-to-3 edge in significant leg strikes, while both men landed 25 significant body strikes.

6: Takedowns landed in 13 attempts for Allen. Prior to Saturday, Allen had never landed more than two takedowns in a UFC bout. He also logged 6:05 of control time. Curtis did not attempt a takedown and logged 1:18 of control time.

9: Unofficial media scorecards, of the 12 tracked by MMADecisions.com, that scored the featherweight bout between Jose Mariscal and Morgan Charriere in favor of Charriere. Judges Michael Bell and Eric Colon saw things differently, submitting 29-28 tallies for Mariscal to give “Chepe” a split-decision victory.

71: Significant strikes landed by Mariscal. By comparison, Charriere landed 49. Mariscal outlanded his opponent 16 to 10 in Round 1 and 23 to 6 in Round 3, while Charriere held a 33-to-32 edge in Round 2.

208: Combined significant striking advantage for Ignacio Bahamondes in his four UFC triumphs. The Chilean outlanded Christos Giagos by a 40-to-17 count — including one knockdown — en route to a first-round technical knockout victory at lightweight.

22: UFC appearances for Court McGee, the most of anyone competing on Saturday’s card. McGee dropped a unanimous verdict to Alex Morono, the third consecutive defeat for “The Ultimate Fighter 11” winner.

60: Significant strikes landed by McGee. By comparison, Morono landed 38. While McGee had the advantage in volume, Morono appeared to land the heavier blows.

11: Significant strikes landed by Norma Dumont in a three-round verdict over Germaine de Randamie at bantamweight. The Brazilian wasn’t especially active from top position in the bout, as she landed 0 significant strikes in Round 1, eight in Round 2 and three in Round 3. De Randamie, meanwhile, landed 16 significant strikes and also held a 91-to-49 edge in total strikes landed.

10:04: Total control time for Dumont, who was successful on six of her eight takedown attempts against de Randamie.

1,281: Days since de Randamie’s last Octagon appearance, a third-round submission triumph over Julianna Pena at UFC on ESPN 16 on Oct. 3, 2020. The Dutch kickboxer became a mother during her lengthy hiatus.

68: Significant strikes landed by Victor Hugo Silva in a unanimous decision win over short-notice foe Pedro Falcao at bantamweight. Silva distributed his offense well, landing 31 to the head, 21 to the body and 16 to the legs. He also had the bout’s only knockdown. Falcao landed 42 significant strikes in defeat.

12: Takedowns successfully defended by Silva. Falcao landed just one of his 13 takedown attempts in the fight.

9: Takedowns landed in 19 attempts by Dan Argueta in a submission loss to Jean Matsumoto at bantamweight. Argueta succumbed to a guillotine choke from his opponent at the 4:59 mark of Round 2.

83: Total strikes by which Cesar Almeida outlanded Dylan Budka in their preliminary middleweight bout. Almeida also held a 29-to-1 edge in significant strikes landed. Budka, meanwhile landed three of six takedowns while logging 5:53 of control time in defeat.
