By the Numbers: UFC Fight Night 230

Edson Barboza showed remarkable resolve against Sodiq Yusuff in the UFC Fight Night 230 headliner.

After almost being finished early in the opening stanza, the Brazilian veteran gradually imposed his will — nearly earning a stoppage of his own in Round 3 — down the stretch to capture a unanimous decision triumph on Saturday night at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. It was an impressive comeback for the 37-year-old, who went the full five rounds for the first time in his 28-bout promotional tenure.

Here is a by-the-numbers look at UFC Fight Night 230, with statistics courtesy of UFCStats.com.

342: Combined significant strikes landed by Yusuff (178) and Barboza (164). That checks in as the fifth-most for a featherweight fight in UFC history but still well behind the 578 combined landed by Max Holloway and Calvin Kattar at UFC on ABC 1, which still holds the top spot.

42: Significant strikes landed by Yusuff in Round 1, when he rocked Barboza and appeared to be on the verge of a stoppage. By comparison, Barboza landed 13 significant strikes in the opening frame.

89: Significant body strikes landed by Barboza. By comparison, Yusuff landed just 14 significant strikes to the body. However, Yusuff held a 126-to-71 edge in significant head strikes and a 38-to-4 advantage in significant leg strikes.

4-3: Record for Barboza since moving from lightweight to 145 pounds. In addition to Yusuff, the Brazilian owns featherweight triumphs against Billy Quarantillo, Shane Burgos and Makwan Amirkhani.

16: Career knockdowns for Barboza during his UFC tenure. “Junior” added to his total when he floored Yusuff with a spinning wheel kick in the third frame.

13-1: Record for Barboza when he lands at least one knockdown in a fight. His lone defeat came when he floored Dan Ige in the opening stanza of their clash at UFC on ESPN 8 but still dropped a split decision in the May 2020 bout.

3: Takedowns landed in four attempts for Barboza, a UFC career high for the Brazilian. He had previously landed two takedowns on three different occasions in the Octagon.

7:03: Total control time for Viviane Araujo in a unanimous decision triumph against Jennifer Maia in the evening’s flyweight co-main event. Araujo landed two of six takedown attempts and outlanded her foe 64 to 60 in total strikes. Maia also landed two takedowns in the fight and held a 41-to-24 edge in significant strikes landed but logged just 1:25 of control time.

2: Leg kick finishes in UFC competition for Jonathan Martinez, who used the attacks to dispatch Adrian Yanez 2:26 into the second round of their bantamweight bout. Martinez and Barboza are the only two fighters in promotion history with multiple leg kick finishes.

29: Significant leg strikes for Martinez. By comparison, Yanez landed just one.

5: Consecutive victories for Martinez, tying him with Mario Bautista for the second-longest active winning streak in the UFC’s bantamweight division behind Merab Dvalishvili (eight). The Factory X representative has won six straight bouts overall, but one of those victories occurred at featherweight.

66: Seconds needed by Michel Pereira to win his UFC middleweight debut against Andre Petroski, the fastest triumph of his promotional tenure. “Demolidor” has won six straight outings in the Octagon — five at welterweight and one at 185 pounds.

2: Consecutive bantamweight fights for which Christian Rodriguez has failed to make weight. The Roufusport MMA Academy product is 2-0 in those bouts, with decision victories over previously undefeated prospects Cameron Saaiman and Raul Rosas Jr. to his credit.

17: UFC featherweight victories for Darren Elkins. That ranks second in the history of the division behind only Max Holloway (20). “The Damage” submitted T.J. Brown with a rear-naked choke at the 2:23 mark of Round 3 in their preliminary scrap.

8: Fighters in UFC history to log two or more hours of control time in the Octagon. Elkins joined this group in the third round of his featherweight bout against Brown on Saturday.

6: Finishes for Elkins at 145 pounds. That ties him for the third most in UFC featherweight history.

3: Fighters in UFC history with two knockout victories in 20 seconds or less. With his 20-second TKO triumph over short-notice foe Brendon Marotte, Terrance McKinney joined a group that also includes Anthony Johnson and Matthew Semelsberger. “T. Wrecks” previously dispatched Matt Frevola in seven seconds in his promotional debut at UFC 263.

72: Significant strikes by which Chris Gutierrez outlanded Heili Alateng in their bantamweight pairing. “El Guapo” notably held a 56-to-3 edge in significant leg strikes against his Chinese opponent.

219: Combined significant strikes landed by Emily Ducote (117) and Ashley Yoder (102) in their preliminary strawweight clash. Ducote landed 55% of her attempts overall and held a 57-to-35 edge in Round 3 to propel herself to a unanimous decision triumph.
