Stipe Miocic needed a full 25 minutes to get the best of Daniel Cormier in their heavyweight championship trilogy.

The Ohio-based firefighter retained his crown with a hard-fought, five-round verdict over “DC” in the UFC 252 headliner at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas on Saturday. Not only did Miocic improve to 2-1 against his rival, but he also staked his claim to the title of greatest heavyweight in UFC history. Cormier, meanwhile, might be closing the curtain on a decorated career that saw him become a two-division champion in 2018.

6: Victories in heavyweight title fights for Miocic, tying him with Randy Couture for the most in Ultimate Fighting Championship history. Miocic has bested Cormier (twice), Francis Ngannou, Junior dos Santos, Alistair Overeem and Fabricio Werdum in championship bouts.

115: Significant strikes landed by Miocic. By comparison, Cormier landed 105. Miocic outlanded his opponent 20 to 14 in Round 1, 28 to 16 in Round 3 and 27 to 19 in Round 5. Cormier, meanwhile, outlanded his adversary 26 to 24 in Round 2 and 30 to 16 in Round 4. Miocic also held a 171-to-145 edge in total strikes landed.

31: Significant body strikes landed by Miocic. By comparison, Cormier landed 11.

24: Significant leg strikes for Cormier; Miocic landed 17 significant leg strikes.

1: Knockdown for Miocic. The champ floored Cormier near the end of Round 2 before moving to mount and pounding away with punches until the horn saved “DC” from a potential stoppage.

0: Takedowns landed in six attempts by Miocic, who nonetheless controlled many of the clinch battles against the fence. Cormier landed one of two tries, getting Miocic to the canvas once in the opening stanza.

6: Consecutive bantamweight triumphs for Marlon Vera following a first-round stoppage of Sean O'Malley in the UFC 252 co-main event. That is the second-longest active winning streak at 135 pounds behind only Petr Yan (seven). Note: Vera’s loss to Yadong Song at UFC on ESPN 8 occurred at featherweight.

10: KO/TKO triumphs among 11 professional victories for Jairzinho Rozenstruik, who rebounded from a loss against Francis Ngannou to stop Junior dos Santos via TKO at the 3:47 mark of Round 2 in a main card heavyweight clash.

42: Significant strikes landed by Rozenstruik. “Bigi Boy” landed at a 63 percent rate while landing 21 significant strikes to the head, 20 to the legs and one to the body. Dos Santos, meanwhile, landed 24 significant strikes in defeat.

9: Fighters in UFC history who have earned a KO/TKO victory from the crucifix position. With his second-round stoppage of Herbert Burns, Daniel Pineda joined Gary Goodridge, Matt Hughes, Dong Hyun Kim, Paul Kelly, Jon Jones, Daniel Cormier, Valentina Shevchenko and Tyson Pedro as the only fighters to accomplish the feat.

173: Total strikes landed by Pineda. By comparison, Burns landed just 35. Pineda also held a 48-to-4 edge in significant ground strikes landed.

4: Consecutive bantamweight triumphs for Merab Dvalishvili, the fourth-longest active winning streak in the division. Dvalishvili, who has won five consecutive Octagon appearances overall, earned a unanimous verdict over former flyweight title challenger John Dodson on Saturday night.

18: Takedowns defended by Dodson in 20 attempts. Even though “The Magician” was able to keep the fight with Dvalishvili upright for the most part, he wasn’t able to produce enough offense to sway the scorecards in his favor.

171: Total strikes attempted by Dvalishvili, nearly twice as many as Dodson (90). The Serra-Longo Fight Team representative outlanded his opponent 88 to 31 in total strikes and 50 to 27 in significant strikes.

58: Total strikes by which Vinc Pichel outlanded Jim Miller in a unanimous decision triumph at lightweight. Pichel also outlanded his foe 41 to 14 in significant strikes, landed three of five takedowns and passed guard on six occasions in victory.

36: UFC appearances for Miller, the most of any fighter in the history of the Las Vegas-based promotion. Donald Cerrone (33) is No. 2. The New Jersey native has been especially active of late, fighting five times in the past 16 months.

45: Career submission attempts for Miller, the most any fighter in UFC history. Miller attempted a pair of submissions against Pichel but was unable to secure the tapout.

6-1: Record in UFC bouts since 2014 for Pichel, who has quietly carved out a successful career after being overwhelmed by suplexes against Rustam Khabilov in his debut at “The Ultimate Fighter 15” finale.

13: Submission triumphs among 16 career victories for Virna Jandiroba. The 32-year-old Brazilian became the first person to submit Felice Herrig, tapping “Lil Bulldog” with an armbar in Round 1.

1:44: Time of Jandiroba’s submission, the fourth fastest in UFC strawweight history. The quickest remains Emily Whitmire’s tapout Aleksandra Albu at UFC on ESPN 1.

2: Knockdowns landed by Chris Daukaus en route to a stoppage victory over Parker Porter in a heavyweight duel. Daukaus, who landed 62 percent of his significant strikes, brought an end to the contest at the 4:28 mark of Round 1.

128: Combined significant strikes landed by Octagon newcomers Kai Kamaka (114) and Tony Kelley (114) in their preliminary featherweight tilt. Kelley, meanwhile, held a 185-to-138 edge in total strikes landed. However, it was Kamaka, who also went 5-for-5 on takedowns, who emerged with a unanimous decision triumph.
