By the Numbers: Jack Hermansson vs. Jared Cannonier

As soon as Jack Hermansson heard about a looming Ultimate Fighting Championship event in Denmark, the Swedish middleweight they call “The Joker” wanted in. That wish was granted in the form of Alaskan powerhouse Jared Cannonier, fresh off the biggest victory of his career.

Hermansson and Cannonier will look to stretch their respective winning streaks in the main event of UFC Fight Night 160 in Copenhagen. As they prepare to face off inside the Octagon, read about some numbers significant to their matchup.

Active Winning Streaks

Cannonier rebounded from back-to-back losses to Jan Blachowicz and Dominick Reyes with back-to-back victories over David Branch and Anderson Silva. Fighting at middleweight for the first time since The Ultimate Fighter 24 finale on Dec. 3, 2016, Cannonier starched Branch in 0:38 of the second round and was next tasked with taking on “The Spider.” Unlike Israel Adensanya, Daniel Cormier and Michael Bisping, all of whom had previously defeated Silva, Cannonier made sure to finish the Brazilian striker with a leg kick in round one.

Hermansson is currently on a four-fight winning streak, having beaten Ronaldo Souza, David Branch, Gerald Meerschaert and Thales Leites in succession. Among the four, it was only Souza who reached the final bell with him. The last time Hermansson suffered a loss was at UFC Fight Night 119 when he was knocked out by recent light heavyweight title challenger Thiago Santos.

First-Round Finishes

Nine out of Hermansson’s 20 career victories came via first-round stoppage, with four of them happening inside the Octagon. His victims have been Branch, Meerschaert, Brad Scott and Alex Nicholson. Cannonier holds a higher percentage in terms of first-round finishes, however, with seven out of 12 finishes occurring inside the first frame.

Post-Fight Bonuses (UFC)

In nine Octagon appearances, Cannonier has received three post-fight bonuses. He earned a Performance of the Night citation twice (versus Cyril Asker and David Branch) and a Fight of the Night award once (versus Ion Cutelaba). Hermansson only has one post-fight bonus, for Performance of the Night (versus David Branch). Interestingly, he owns the record of having the most significant strikes landed in a five-round middleweight bout (versus Ronaldo Souza).

Wins by Stoppage

Owner of 16 career stoppages, Hermansson is a powerful striker with some excellent submissions in his arsenal. He owns 11 victories by KO or TKO and five by submission. Cannonier, on the other hand, boasts seven triumphs by KO or TKO and three by submission. More importantly, he will forever hold the distinction of having felled the great Anderson Silva.

Career Losses

Cannonier and Hermansson have dropped four fights each. Cannonier was decisioned by Jan Blachowicz and Glover Teixeira and was knocked out by Dominick Reyes and Shawn Jordan, all four lossess happening in the UFC. As for the younger but more experienced Hermansson, two of his four losses occurred before he was signed by the UFC, specifically in Bellator where he was decisioned by Daniel Vizcaya and tapped out by Jason Butcher. Inside the Octagon, he was knocked out by Thiago Santos and submitted by Cezar Ferreira.
