Former two-time Bellator MMA welterweight champion Douglas Lima recently completed a trilogy with championship rival Andrey Koreshkov. It was a victory that afforded him a spot in the semifinals of the promotion’s welterweight grand prix, which he had previously won twice.
This time, Lima will figure in an interesting matchup with the undefeated Michael Page. Expect the Brazilian to put everything on the line to hand the flamboyant Brit the first loss of his career. Read about the numbers that make him fully capable of doing just that.
21: Wins without a single defeat as an amateur muay Thai fighter. Seventeen of those victories came by knockout.
5: Wins without a loss to start his professional career. Training at American Top Team in Atlanta, Lima piled up five straight victories in various promotions in Georgia, Colorado and Idaho.
2: Rounds with future UFC star Matt Brown, who defeated him by TKO. The event was called ISCF: Invasion, and it was for the promotion’s Eastern U.S. welterweight championship.
1: Back-to-back losses in his professional career. Lima was 12-2 when he met Charles Blanchard at KOTC: Invincible and lost via unanimous decision. On his next bout, Lima was pitted against Eric Dahlberg in an event called Best of the Best, and once again, he bowed out by unanimous decision. Since then, he has never lost two in a row.
22: Fights in different promotions before getting signed by Bellator. During that long run, he picked up notable victories over Clint Hester, Jesse Juarez and Terry Martin. He submitted Juarez to capture the Maximum Fighting Championship welterweight title and knocked out Martin on his first defense. Lima had previously won the REDLINE middleweight grand prix. His record before Bellator knocked on his door was 18-4.
15: Fights at Bellator, with a record of 12-3. Lima defeated the likes of Ben Saunders, Lorenz Larkin and Paul Daley and lost only to top-caliber fighters, such as Ben Askren, Koreshkov and Rory MacDonald.
83: Percent finishing rate. Lima prides of having 15 wins by KO or TKO and 10 by submission. Only five of his 30 wins came by decision.
10: Times he went to a decision, splitting wins and losses. He heard the final bell on his fights with Blanchard, Dahlberg, Hester, Askren, Koreshkov, Daley, Larkin and McDonald, as well as Cortez Coleman and Steve Carl.
3: Fights with Koreshkov. Lima lost his newly captured Bellator welterweight strap to Koreshkov via unanimous decision at Bellator 140. He got back at the Russian and regained his belt with a knockout at Bellator 164. In their recent meeting, Lima once again stopped Koreshkov, and this time, it was by submission.
4: Countries in which he has fought in. Apart from the U.S., Lima has also fought in Canada, England and Israel.
31: Years of age. Lima was born in Brazil but his family moved to the United States, specifically in the state of Georgia.
