By The Numbers: Stipe Miocic vs. Daniel Cormier 3

Brian KnappAug 12, 2020

Stipe Miocic and Daniel Cormier will write the final chapter in their trilogy when they collide in the UFC 252 headliner on Saturday in Las Vegas, the fate of the undisputed Ultimate Fighting Championship heavyweight title once again hanging in the balance. They split their first two meetings with one another, as Cormier knocked out Miocic at UFC 226 in 2018 before the Strong Style Fight Team cornerstone returned the favor at UFC 241 a little more than a year later.

Neither man has fought since their Aug. 17, 2019 rematch, and all signs point to a “DC” retirement after their forthcoming third encounter, no matter the outcome.

As Miocic and Cormier tie up whatever loose ends remain in their latest training camp, a look at some of the numbers that have brought them to this point:

37: Years of age for Miocic. He was born in Euclid, Ohio, on Aug. 19, 1982.

9: Post-fight bonuses banked by Miocic in his 16 appearances under the UFC banner. No other heavyweight has won more. Miocic has been awarded “Performance of the Night” on five occasions, “Fight of the Night” three times and “Knockout of the Night” once, resulting in $440,000 in additional income.

15: Miocic wins by knockout or technical knockout, accounting for 79 percent of his career total. He has delivered nine of those knockouts in the first round, four in the second, one in the fourth and one in the fifth.

361: Total strikes landed by Miocic in his fifth-round technical knockout of former K-1 World Grand Prix winner Mark Hunt in the UFC Fight Night 65 main event on May 10, 2015. It set the all-time single-fight record in the promotion—a mark that stands to this day.

4: Sub-minute finishes on the Miocic ledger. He put away Corey Mullis with punches 17 seconds into his pro debut at a North American Allied Fight Series event in February 2010, cut down Philip De Fries with punches 43 seconds into their UFC on Fuel TV 1 pairing in February 2012, disposed of Fabio Maldonado with punches 35 seconds into “The Ultimate Fighter Brazil 3” Finale headliner in May 2014 and wiped out Andrei Arlovski with punches 54 seconds into the UFC 195 co-main event in January 2016.

41: Years of age for Cormier, who was born in Lafayette, Louisiana, on March 20, 1979.

7: Two-division champions in UFC history, including Cormier. Randy Couture, B.J. Penn, Conor McGregor, Georges St. Pierre, Amanda Nunes and Henry Cejudo are the others. Only Cormier, McGregor, Nunes and Cejudo have held titles in two weight classes simultaneously.

5: Submission victories on Cormier’s resume, all by rear-naked choke. His list of victims: Tony Johnson , Dan Henderson, Anthony Johnson (twice) and Derrick Lewis.

2: Countries in which Cormier has competed as mixed martial artist. He owns a 20-2 record in the United States and a 2-0 mark in Australia.

62: Seconds needed for Cormier to discard Jason Riley with punches at Strikeforce “Houston” on Aug. 21, 2010. Having occurred in his fifth professional appearance, it remains the fastest finish of his 25-fight career.
