Ovince St. Preux seems to excel in his role as part-time contender, part-time gatekeeper in the Ultimate Fighting Championship light heavyweight division.

St. Preux will fill the latter role when he meets the unbeaten but untested Jamahal Hill in the UFC on ESPN 19 co-headliner this Saturday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. The former University of Tennessee linebacker has won six of his past 10 bouts. St. Preux enters the Octagon with some momentum, as he knocked out Alonzo Menifield in the second round of their UFC Fight Night 176 clash on Sept. 5. Hill, meanwhile, has not fought since the result of his UFC on ESPN 9 rout of Klidson Abreu in May was changed to a no-contest due to a failed post-fight drug test.

As St. Preux and Hill head toward their all-important battle, a look at some of the numbers that have accompanied them to this point:

37: Years of age for St. Preux, who was born on April 8, 1983 in Immokalee, Florida, a city of roughly 25,000 people in the southwestern corner of the Sunshine State.

21: St. Preux appearances as a UFC light heavyweight, placing him third on the promotion’s all-time list at 205 pounds. He trails only Mauricio Rua (22) and Jon Jones (22). St. Preux also ranks second in submission wins (five) and finishes (11), third in knockouts (six), fourth in victories (13) and seventh in total fight time (3:14:06).

8: Post-fight bonuses banked by St. Preux since he joined the UFC in 2013. He has been awarded “Performance of the Night” seven times and “Fight of the Night” once, resulting in $400,000 of additional income.

3: Submission losses on the St. Preux resume. He succumbed to rear-naked chokes from Glover Teixeira and Nikita Krylov and tapped to a guillotine choke from Ilir Latifi.

5: Decision wins to St. Preux’s credit, accounting for 20% of his career total (25). He has gone the distance on 14 occasions, compiling a 5-9 record in those fights.

29: Years of age for Hill, who was born in Chicago on May 19, 1991—the same day that Willy T. Ribbs became the first African American driver to race in the Indianapolis 500.

1: Hill appearance on Dana White’s Contender Series. He put away Alexander Poppeck with punches and elbows in the second round of their Season 3 confrontation in July 2019. Hill was one of three competitors awarded UFC contracts on Episode 5, along with Sean Woodson and Billy Quarantillo.

70: Significant strikes by which Hill outlanded Darko Stosic in his organizational debut at UFC Fight Night 166 a little less than a year ago. “Sweet Dreams” earned a unanimous decision despite conceding six takedowns—four of them in the final round—across the 15-minute affair.

4: Hill victories over sub-.500 opponents, providing him with more than half of his professional total (seven). He twice defeated William Vincent, 4-8, and also owns wins over Alex Davidson, 0-2, and Mike Johnson, 0-2.

2: First-round finishes on the Hill ledger. He cut down Johnson with punches 4:45 into the first round of their Knockout Promotions 59 pairing on Dec. 16, 2017 and forced Vincent to quit on his stool after five minutes at Lights Out Championship 2 on Feb. 16, 2019. Advertisement
