By The Numbers: Michael Bisping

Michael Bisping was reviled by some and beloved by others, but the former Ultimate Fighting Championship middleweight titleholder enjoyed a run to which only a select few can relate.

“The Count” was inducted into the modern-era wing of the UFC Hall of Fame in 2019, having closed out his remarkable 13-year career with a 30-9 record. Bisping was a star on Europe’s regional scene—he captured titles in FX3, Cage Warriors Fighting Championship and Cage Rage—prior to his being cast on and winning Season 3 of “The Ultimate Fighter” reality series. He compiled a 20-9 mark under the UFC banner and announced his retirement on May 28, 2018, a little more than six months after his knockout loss to Kelvin Gastelum at UFC Fight Night 122 in what was his final appearance inside the Octagon.

As Bisping’s competitive exploits fade further and further into the rearview mirror, a look at some of the numbers he compiled during his time in MMA:

42: Years of age for Bisping. He was born on a British military base in Nicosia, Cyprus, on Feb. 28, 1979.

18: Bisping wins by knockout or technical knockout, accounting for 60% of his career total (30). His list of UFC victims: Luke Rockhold, Cung Lee, Jason Miller, Jorge Rivera, Denis Kang, Jason Day, Charles McCarthy, Elvis Sinosic, Eric Schafer and Josh Haynes. Bisping owns two other wins by submission and 10 more by decision.

12: First-round finishes to Bisping’s credit. Eight of the 12 occurred before he arrived in the UFC in June 2006.

8: UFC fighters, including Bisping, with at least 20 victories inside the Octagon. Donald Cerrone (23), Demian Maia (22), Jim Miller (21), Andrei Arlovski (20), Georges St. Pierre (20), Jon Jones (20) and Dustin Poirier (20) are the others.

1,567: Significant strikes landed by Bisping as a member of the UFC roster, placing him fifth on the promotion’s all-time list. He trails only Max Holloway (2,618), the aforementioned Cerrone (1,727), Joanna Jedrzejczyk (1,711) and Frankie Edgar (1,705).

5: UFC appearances in which Bisping connected on at least 100 significant strikes. Not surprisingly, he went 5-0 in those bouts. Bisping landed 118 against Yoshihiro Akiyama at UFC 120, 102 against “Mayhem” Miller at “The Ultimate Fighter 14” Finale, 115 against Thales Leites at UFC Fight Night 72, 108 against Anderson Silva at UFC Fight Night 84 and 119 against Dan Henderson at UFC 204.

518: Days spent by Bisping as UFC middleweight champion—the fifth-longest title reign of all-time at 185 pounds. Only Silva (2,457), Chris Weidman (888), Israel Adesanya (696) and Robert Whittaker (660) have ruled the weight class longer.

36: Seconds needed for Bisping to put away Steve Matthews with strikes in his April 10, 2004 professional debut. One of three sub-minute stoppage victories on his resume, it was the fastest finish of his 39-fight career.

330,000: Dollars in post-fight bonus money banked by Bisping across his 29 assignments in the UFC. He was awarded “Fight of the Night” on five different occasions and “Performance of the Night” twice.

.704: Cumulative winning percentage between the nine men—St. Pierre, Henderson, Rockhold, Gastelum, Rashad Evans, Wanderlei Silva, Chael Sonnen, Vitor Belfort and Tim Kennedy—who defeated Bisping. They own a combined record of 219-89-3.
